SALTDOGS MAKE BIG COMEBACK AGAINST CANARIES

Lincoln 8, Sioux Falls 7Box

Trailing 7-0 after the first inning, the Lincoln Saltdogs roared back to score six runs over the next two innings and then two more in the seventh to take the lead for good and beat the Sioux Falls Canaries, 8-7. With the victory, Lincoln wins their fifth straight and moves into a virtual tie with the Gary SouthShore RailCats atop the Central Division. Saltdogs SS Mike Gilmartin went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI and RF Brian Joynt had two hits, both doubles, in four at-bats and scored two runs. Saltdogs reliever Jhonny Montoya picked up the win as he gave up a hit and a walk in two innings of work.  Lincoln closer Marshall Schuler pitched a scoreless ninth inning and collected his league leading 28th save of the season.

Wichita 10, Winnipeg 3Box

The Wichita Wingnuts rolled out to a 5-0 lead after two innings and would go on to beat the Winnipeg Goldeyes by the score of 10-3. The win by the Wingnuts was their fifth straight and moved their record to 30 games over .500 at 53-23. Wichita 2B Jake Kahaulelio went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and a RBI while CF Brent Clevlen had two hits in four at-bats, drove in two runs and scored two. Wingnuts DH Carlo Testa hit a three-run home run in the first inning and C Chris McMurray launched a fifth inning grand slam. Wichita hurler Jason Van Skike notched his ninth win of the season after giving up three earned runs on 10 hits in six innings of work.

Fargo-Moorhead 4, Gary SouthShore 1Box

The middle of the order leads the way in Fargo-Moorhead’s 4-1 win over the Gary SouthShore RailCats. The RedHawks 4-5 hitters of 2B C.J. Retherford and 1B Erik Castro collected three of the team’s five hits, drove in all four of their runs and scored two runs. Retherford also chipped in with his ninth home run of the season, a two-run shot in the sixth inning. Fargo-Moorhead starting pitcher Taylor Stanton notched his fourth victory of the season after a strong 6 1/3 inning performance. Stanton gave up only a walk and five hits and struck out five batters.

Amarillo 3, Grand Prairie 2Box

Amarillo picked up their fifth straight victory in a 3-2 decision over the Grand Prairie AirHogs. Sox 1B Andres Rodriguez and CF Jason Martin each had two hits in the contest with Rodriguez driving in a run and Martin scoring one. Amarillo pitcher Clayton Tanner turned in a terrific performance in earning his second win. Tanner went 8 2/3 strong innings allowing two earned runs on eight hits with two walks and nine strikeouts. For Grand Prairie in the loss, 1B Jason Botts had two hits.
