SALTDOGS’ LONG TIME INDY BALLER, BROWNELL, EARNS PITCHER OF THE WEEK AWARD

MOORHEAD, MN- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Lincoln Saltdogs’ RHP John Brownell has been named this week’s Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week ending July 14, 2019.

Brownell earned the award after throwing a complete game shutout in a 6-0 win over the Winnipeg Goldeyes on July 10, allowing just five hits and two walks while striking out five in the win. On the season, the veteran righty is 4-3 with a 3.77 ERA over 10 starts.

Omaha, Nebraska native began his professional career in 2006 after being drafted in the 27th round of the MLB Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies organization.  Brownell spent one season in the Phillies’ organization before beginning what is now a 13-year-career in independent ball. This is Brownell’s second stop in the American Association. He previously played for the AirHogs’ organization back in 2012, going 8-7 with a 3.65 ERA.
