SALTDOGS ESCAPE WILD NINTH TO EDGE RAILCATS

Lincoln 4, Gary SouthShore 3 – Box Score

The Lincoln Saltdogs held off the Gary SouthShore RailCats 4-3 after a wild ninth inning on Monday night.

Lincoln led 2-1 heading into the final frame thanks to SS Ivan Marin’s (2-for-4) two RBI single in the fifth inning. The RailCats first run also came in the fifth when RF D.K. Carey singled home CF Reggie Wilson. In the ninth, 2B Cesar Valera singled to center field to push LF Brandon Jacobs across the plate and later in the frame, Valera scored when 3B Christian Ibarra singled.

But the RailCats surged in the bottom of the ninth. Pinch hitter Randy Santiesteban lifted a sac fly to scored DH Wilfredo Gimenez and 2B Cole Fabio did the same in the next at-bat to score SS Andy DeJesus (3-for-4) and pull within a run. Wilson drew a walk in the next at-bat but Carey flew out to right to end the game in ensuing at-bat.

 

Fargo-Moorhead 4, Chicago 3 – Box Score

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks slid past the Chicago Dogs 4-3 on Monday night.

The Dogs struck first in the top of the second inning as SS Stephen Perez (2-for-3) singled home both LF Tony Rosselli and RF Rubi Silva. But the RedHawks came right back in the bottom of the inning and tied things up after an RBI single from C Charlie Valerio and a sac fly from SS Yhoxian Medina that played 3B Leobaldo Pina.

DH Keruy De La Cruz gave the RedHawks the lead with his 11th home run of the season in the fourth inning, a solo shot. Chicago tied things up again in the top of the seventh with a sac fly from CF Kenny Wilson but RF Tim Colwell (2-for-4) scored the eventual game-winning run in the bottom of the inning.

Colwell scored after CF Devan Ahart reached first on a dropped third strike.

 

St. Paul 6, Sioux Falls 4 – Box Score

The St. Paul Saints posted four runs in the top of the first inning and never trailed on the way to a 6-4 win against the Sioux Falls Canaries.

In the first, DH Brady Shoemaker (2-for-4) singled home the first run of the day and, after LF Burt Reynolds scored on a 2B Zach Walters groundout, Shoemaker scored after a 3B Dante Bichette Jr. single. Bichette Jr. capped the rally with a run after a C Justin O’Conner single. Walters added a sac fly in the fifth and 1B Nathaniel Maggio (3-for-4) scored on a wild pitch in the sixth to protect the Saints’ lead.

For the Canaries, CF Jordan Smith doubled home two runs in the fourth and LF Jabari Henry added an RBI double of his own in the fifth. DH Jeff Malm (2-for-4) hit a solo home run in the ninth but the Canaries’ threat ended there.

 

 

Kansas City 4, Texas 2 – Box Score

The Kansas City T-Bones held the Texas AirHogs to just three hits thanks to the work of starting pitcher Tommy Collier and took a 4-2 win Monday night.

Collier worked 7.1 innings and gave up two runs (one earned) on those three hits while striking out five batters. The win improves him to 8-3 on the season. The only earned run of the game was a solo home run from RF Stewart Ijames in the very first at bat of the evening.

Kansas City took the lead in the bottom of the second when DH Alay Lago (2-for-4) scored on a pass ball and LF Keith Curcio scored on a Ryan Brett single. Curcio scored again in the fourth when Brett singled and stretched in into a double on an error.

Ijames scored again in the sixth when CF Dillon Thomas bounced out but the T-Bones added another run in the eighth on a RF Logan Moon RBI single to take the two-run win.

 

Cleburne 6, Winnipeg 3 – Box Score

Two big swings pushed the Cleburne Railroaders past the Winnipeg Goldeyes 6-3.

In the top of the third inning, DH Rafael Palmeiro hit a two-run single to give the Railroaders an early lead 2-1. The Goldeyes tied the score in the bottom of the inning when 1B Jordan Ebert scored on wild pitcher but 1B Levi Scott (2-for-5) hit a grand slam in the top of the fourth to give Cleburne the lead back and the Railroaders held that lead the rest of the way.

Winnipeg scored the final run of the game when C Tyler Baker doubled home DH Grant Heyman (2-for-3) in the fifth. 2B Tucker Nathans provided the game’s opening run with a lead-off home run in the second inning.

 

Wichita 6, Sioux City 2 – Box Score

The Wichita Wingnuts racked up 14 hits as they topped the Sioux City Explorers 6-2.

Eight different Wingnuts recorded hits in the game and four of them had multi-hit games. 2B Logan Watkins went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and RF Angel Reyes added three hits with a home run, his 14th of 2018, and two runs scored. CF Zach Nehrir finished the night 2-for-5 with two RBIs and SS Leo Vargas went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.

For the Explorers, five different batters each had two hits including RF Michael Lang, who had two doubles, and C Dylan Kelly, who had his team’s only RBI.
