SALTDOGS AND RAILCATS SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER

Gary SouthShore 5, Lincoln 2- Box Score (F-7)

The Gary SouthShore Railcats (22-18) used the long ball to take game one of a doubleheader against the Lincoln Saltdogs (23-18) on Sunday 5-2.

Every Railcats’ run came via home run on Sunday.

Reggie Wilson set the tone, hitting a lead-off home run (1) in the top of the first. However, the Saltdogs scored one run in the first and second to take a 2-1 lead.

Lincoln held the lead until the top of the fourth when Colin Willis (5) and Alex Crosby (3) both hit solo home runs. Wilfredo Giminez added a two-run home run (2) in the top of the sixth to bring the game to its final score.

Brendan Jenkins (2-0) entered in relief for Gary SouthShore and proceeded to pitch two scoreless innings to earn the win. Adam Quintana earned the save (3) after pitching a scoreless sixth and seventh, striking out five out of six batters faced.

 

Lincoln 1, Gary SouthShore 0- Box Score (F-7)

The Lincoln Saltdogs (24-18) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first and held on to take game two of a doubleheader with the Gary SouthShore Railcats (22-19) on Sunday.

The Saltdogs’ Curt Smith drove in Randolph Oduber, who reached earlier on a hit by pitch, with an RBI double for the game’s only run in the bottom of the first.

Both starters, Jeff McKenzie (Gary) and Austin Robichaux (Lincoln) went the distance in the shortened game, with Robichaux (2-3) outdueling McKenzie.

There were only six total hits in the game (Gary, 4) (Lincoln, 2).

 

Chicago 6, Fargo-Moorhead 3- Box Score

The Chicago Dogs (14-27) completed a three-game sweep of the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (20-20) with a 6-3 win on Sunday.

The RedHawks scored first on an RBI double by Leobaldo Pina in the top of the second, however, the Dogs would use the long ball to take a commanding lead in the bottom of the third.

Matt Dean led off the frame with a solo home run (5) and Trey Vavra hit a two out three-run home run to give Chicago a 4-1 lead. The RedHawks cut the lead to two in the top of the fifth, but the Dogs used back-to-back RBIs by Vavra and Joe Benson in the bottom of the inning to secure the win.

Josh Goosen-Brown (3-3) was awarded the win after allowing just two runs (one earned) in six innings of work. Kaohi Downing pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the save (9).

 

Winnipeg 4, St. Paul 2- Box Score

The Winnipeg Goldeyes (21-21) used a four run fifth inning to top the St. Paul Saints (22-20) 4-2 on Sunday.

With runners at second and third and the Goldeyes down 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Winnipeg tied the game by scoring on a wild pitch and took the lead in the same at bat when Reggie Abercrombie drove in Josh Romanski with an RBI single. Three batters later, Jamey Smart hit a two-run single to give the Goldeyes a 4-1 lead.

The Saints scored their second unearned run of the game in the top of the seventh to bring the game to its final score.

Mitch Lambson (2-1) was awarded the win after allowing just one unearned run in six innings of work. Victor Capellan pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his league leading fifteenth save of the season.

 

Sioux City 10, Wichita 4- Box Score

The Sioux City Explorers (32-10) had a hit parade en route to a 10-4 win over the Wichita Wingnuts (25-16) on Sunday.

Every Explorers batter collected at least one hit in the contest, tallying 18 in total.

Jose Sermo and Jay Austin led the offensive onslaught. Sermo went 4-for-5 at the dish with two home runs (7) three RBIs and three runs scored. Austin went 2-for-5 with one home run (2) and four RBIs.

Sioux City’s starter, Taylor Jordan (6-1), was awarded the win after giving up four in five innings of work.
