DURHAM, NC – The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Sioux City Explorers LHP Richard Salazar (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week.
Salazar’s start on the last day of August was among the best performances by an American Association pitcher this season. The Sioux City left-hander pitched seven one-hit innings in a road win at St. Paul. Salazar struck out seven and walked three, en route to a 4-0 Explorers victory.
The Caracas, VZ native was perfect his first time through the Saints’ order. Though he walked one batter in the fourth inning, Salazar still faced the minimum 15 batters over five innings. Trevor Hairgrove broke up Salazar’s no-hit bid with one out in the sixth inning, but the southpaw held the Saints scoreless for his 10th win of the season.
