DURHAM, NC – The American Association announced today that Winnipeg Goldeyes LHP Chris Salamida (pictured) has been named the Rawlings Pitcher of the Month for August. The selection was made by Pointstreak, the official statistician of the American Association.
Salamida’s August was nothing short of sensational. The Goldeyes’ left-hander was a flawless 6-0, including a complete game, two-hit shutout. Overall, Salamida compiled a 2.08 ERA over seven starts in August. In 47.2 innings, Salamida struck out 32 batters and walked 11.
The Rawlings Pitcher of the Month had perhaps the best performance of the 2013 season on August 20 in St. Paul. Salamida pitched nine scoreless innings and only scattered two hits. He struck out four Saints hitters and walked just one for his fourth straight win of the month.
The only thing more impressive about Salamida’s complete game two-hitter was the fact that it came on the back of a seven-inning gem in the lefty’s previous start. On August 15, Salamida pitched seven scoreless frames at Sioux City. In that outing, he only allowed three hits and struck out six, as Winnipeg edged the Explorers, 1-0.
Between his August 15 and 20 starts, Salamida only surrendered five hits and struck out 10 men over 16 innings. If you include his next start against Sioux Falls, the left-hander put together an impressive streak of 20.1 consecutive innings without allowing a run.
