SAINTS SHUTOUT GOLDEYES IN GAME ONE

St. Paul

St. Paul 1, Winnipeg 0 – Game 1 (St. Paul leads series, 1-0) – Box

St. Paul starting pitcher Mark Hamburger and two relievers combine on a nine-hit shutout as the Saints defeated Winnipeg, 1-0 in game one of their first round series. Hamburger went the first eight innings allowing no walks and seven hits while striking out two batters. The righty picked up the victory and is now 1-0 in the postseason. The bullpen duo of Caleb Thielbar and Ryan Rodebaugh each gave up a hit with Rodebaugh getting out of a bases loaded jam in the ninth to earn the save. Offensively for St. Paul, DH David Bergin and 3B Nate Hanson both went 2-for-4 at the plate with RF Breland Almadova plating the only run of the contest. Game two will be tomorrow night beginning at 7:05 PM.

Wichita 9, Sioux City 3 – Game 2 (Series tied, 1-1) – Box

Wichita pounded out 16 hits and scored in six of their nine offensive innings to roll to a 9-3 victory over Sioux City in game two of the best-of-five first round series. The Wingnuts had six batters with multi-hit games including SS Leo Vargas who went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI. Wichita CF Harrison Kain collected three hits and three runs while LF T.J. Mittelstaedt added two RBI in a 2-for-5 night. Wingnuts starting pitcher Alex Boshers tossed six solid innings to notch his first postseason victory. Boshers gave up three runs, two earned, on seven hits with a walk and two strikeouts. The scene now shifts to Wichita with game three on Saturday night beginning at 7:05 PM.
