EXPLORERS WIN GAME ONE IN WALK-OFF

Sioux City 6, Wichita 5 – Game 1 (10 Innings) (Sioux City leads series, 1-0) – Box

Sioux City 1B Ino Patron singled home 3B Tommy Mendonca with the game winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Explorers collected a 6-5 walk-off victory over Wichita in game one of the first round playoff series. The Wingnuts tallied five runs in the top of the fifth to take a 5-3 lead but would not be able to hold it as Sioux City plated a run in the bottom of the frame and another one in the sixth to tie the contest at 5-5 and eventually force extra innings. Patron went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI while Mendonca added a pair of hits and two runs. Explorers pitcher Rob Wort tossed three scoreless innings of relief and earned the victory. Wort gave up a walk and three hits while striking out four batters. Game two of the series is scheduled for Thursday night in Sioux City beginning at 7:05 PM.

St. Paul at Winnipeg – Game 1 (Postponed/Rain)

Game one of the best-of-five first round series between St. Paul and Winnipeg was postponed due to rain. The playoff opener will now be played on Thursday followed by game two on Friday. Both games will be at 7:05 PM.
