SAINTS ROLL TO EARLY LEAD IN WIN OVER GOLDEYES

St. Paul 10, Winnipeg 2 – Box Score

St. Paul scored early and often in this contest as they tallied nine runs over the first four innings and rolled to a 10-2 win over Winnipeg. With the victory, the Saints stayed a half-game back of Fargo-Moorhead in the North Division race.

The Saints pounded out 17 hits in the contest with seven batters picking-up multi-hit games. St. Paul leadoff hitter Max Murphy led the way going 2-for-5 with two home runs and three RBIs. Murphy now has 16 homers on the season, which is tops in the American Association. Along with Murphy, CF Dan Motl scored two runs and drove in one in a 2-for-4 night while 1B John Silviano and SS Matt Morales each added three hits and a run. In total, the Saints blasted six home runs.

St. Paul starter Ryan Zimmerman received plenty of run support tonight and notched his second victory of the season. Zimmerman allowed two earned runs over six innings of work and fanned five batters.

 

Chicago 9, Texas 4 (Game 1 – 7 Innings) – Box Score

Chicago scored seven runs in the third inning to take an 8-1 lead and would go on from there to beat Texas, 9-4, in game one of a doubleheader.

The Dogs had five batters with multi-hit games including RF Victor Roache who went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs. Chicago SS Jordan Dean hit a home run and drove in two runs in a 2-for-3 night while CF David Olmedo-Barrera added a pair of hits in four at-bats along with a run and two RBIs. In total, Chicago had 12 hits in the game.

Dogs starting pitcher Jake Dahlberg allowed three earned runs over 5 1/3 innings of work to collect the victory. The southpaw gave up two walks and eight hits to go along with three strikeouts. With the win, Dahlberg is now 3-2 on the season.

 

Texas 7, Chicago 6 (Game 2 – 7 Innings) – Box Score

Texas gained a split in the twinbill with Chicago as they defeated the Dogs in game two by a 7-6 score. The AirHogs plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to erase a 6-5 deficit and pick-up the big victory.

There were 12 hits collected by Texas in the contest with leadoff hitter Josh Prince leading the way going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. AirHogs LF Li Ning had two hits in four at-bats along a pair of RBIs while 1B Chen Junpeng scored two runs and drew a walk in a 1-for-2 outing.

Texas pitcher Tyler Matzek tossed 2 2/3 innings of relief and collected his second win of the season. Matzek allowed an earned run on two hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

For Chicago in the loss, LF Trey Vavra had a perfect 3-for-3 game with two runs scored.

 

Fargo-Moorhead 6, Milwaukee 5 – Box Score

Fargo-Moorhead maintained their half-game lead in the North Division with a 6-5 victory over Milwaukee. Catcher Daniel Comstock belted a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the RedHawks the lead for good.

There were five batters from Fargo-Moorhead that had multi-hit games including Comstock who went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs. RedHawks 2B T.J. Bennett scored a pair of runs in a 2-for-4 night while LF Brennan Metzger had two hits in three at-bats along with a run and an RBI. In total, Fargo-Moorhead had 13 hits in the contest.

RedHawks pitcher Michael Hope threw two innings of scoreless relief to earn the win. The Shippensburg University product allowed a hit and struck out two in the seven batters he faced. Hope is now 2-0 on the year with the victory.

 

Cleburne 4, Gary SouthShore 3 – Box Score

After falling behind 3-0 through two innings of action, Cleburne rallied for four runs over the next two frames to take the lead for good and defeat Gary SouthShore, 4-3. With the victory, the Railroaders have now won nine out of their last 10 games.

The RailCats took a 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a bases loaded walk to RF Colin Willis and a sacrifice fly from C Wilfredo Gimenez. Gary SouthShore plated their other run in the second as SS Marcus Mooney came home to score on an RBI triple by CF Evan Marzilli. Cleburne started their comeback in the third as they scored three runs via an RBI single by LF K.C. Huth and a CF Zach Nehrir two-run home run. The Railroaders tallied the go-ahead run in the fourth on a solo blast by 2B Ryan Brett.

Brett went 2-for-4 with an RBI while SS Daniel Robertson had a pair of hits in three at-bats and a run.

Cleburne starting pitcher Stephen Johnson threw five innings of work and grabbed his third win. Johnson gave up three earned runs on five hits to go along with four punchouts.

 

Lincoln 9, Kansas City 5 – Box Score

Lincoln scored four runs in the sixth inning to take a 9-4 lead and would go on from there to down Kansas City by a 9-5 final.

The Saltdogs had eight batters in their lineup that collected at least a hit tonight. Lincoln 2B Tyler Moore led the charge going 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBIs. Saltdogs 1B Cody Regis plated two runs in a 1-for-3 outing while CF Teodoro Martinez added three hits and three RBIs. In all, Lincoln had 11 total hits in the contest.

Saltdogs starting pitcher Nick Tepesch allowed three earned runs over six innings pitched to pick-up the victory. The righty gave up three walks and 11 hits to go with three strikeouts in a 97-pitch performance. With the win, Tepesch is now 6-4.

For the T-Bones, SS Shawn O’Malley had 4-for-5 night with three doubles and two runs batted in.

 

Sioux Falls 16, Sioux City 2 – Box Score

It was all Sioux Falls in this contest as the Canaries rolled past Sioux City by the score of 16-2. With the score 7-2 in the eighth inning, Sioux Falls put the game well out of reach by sending 14 batters to the plate and tallying nine runs.

The Canaries received solid production from up and down the lineup tonight as all nine batters collected at least at hit and eight of them scored at least a run. Sioux Falls SS Andrew Ely had a terrific game going 3-for-5 with two home runs, three runs scored and four RBIs. Canaries 3B Jordan Ebert plated three runs and drove in two in a 3-for-4 night while C Graham Low had a perfect 3-for-3 outing and scored twice.

Starting pitcher Mark Seyler gave up two earned runs in 6 2/3 innings of work to notch his third win for Sioux Falls. Seyler allowed five hits and two walks in his 102-pitch outing.

Catcher Dylan Kelly had two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs in the loss for the Explorers.
