St. Paul 15, Sioux Falls 1 – Box
It was all St. Paul in this contest as the Saints pounded out 16 hits and rolled to a 15-1 victory over the Sioux Falls Canaries. St. Paul had five batters with multi-hit games including 3B Nate Hanson who went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and five RBI. Saints CF Breland Almadova added a double, a triple and three runs scored while 1B Dan Johnson belted a home run and drove in two in a 1-for-2 game. St. Paul starter Eric Veglahn threw eight strong innings in earning his third win. Veglahn allowed an earned run on three hits to go along with four punchouts.
Gary SouthShore 6, Fargo-Moorhead 5 – Box
Designated hitter Frank Martinez launched a three-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to rally the Gary SouthShore RailCats past the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, 6-5. Martinez had a monster night offensively as he went a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with two doubles, two runs scored and five RBI. Gary SouthShore C Jose Gonzalez drove in the other run in a 1-for-4 night while LF Reggie Wilson scored a pair of runs and drew four walks. RailCats pitcher Lars Liguori nabbed his first victory with the club as he tossed 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and a hit. Third baseman Josh Mazzola hit his 18th home run of the year for Fargo-Moorhead in the loss.
Texas 9, Joplin 2 – Box
The Texas AirHogs scored six big runs in the seventh inning to blow open a tight contest and defeat the Joplin Blasters by the score of 9-2. Texas CF Michael Hur led the way offensively going 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI. AirHogs LF Brian Bistagne had two hits and two runs scored while RF Nick Akins chipped in with a three-run home run in the seventh. Texas starting pitcher Cody Hebner tossed six solid innings in notching his fifth win of the year. Hebner gave up two earned runs on six hits with a walk and three strikeouts.
Kansas City 5, Laredo 3 – Box
The Kansas City T-Bones tallied two runs in the eighth inning to break a 3-3 tie and beat the Laredo Lemurs by a 5-3 final. Laredo had a 3-0 lead after four innings only to see Kansas City score two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to even the game at 3-3 and then go ahead for good with the two in the eighth. T-Bones DH Anthony Gallas and SS Vladimir Frias each hit home runs while leadoff hitter Tyler Massey had three hits in five at-bats and plated a run. Kansas City pitcher Josh Tols threw two shutout innings of relief to earn his fifth win of the season. With the victory, the T-Bones have now won four straight.
Wichita 9, Winnipeg 7 – Box
Wichita scored runs in each of the first six innings of the game and held on late to defeat Winnipeg by the score of 9-7. Wingnuts SS Leo Vargas turned in a solid performance at the plate going a perfect 4-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI. Wichita 1B Matt Chavez launched a home run and drove in four in a 2-for-3 night while 3B T.J. Mittelstaedt picked up a double and scored two runs. Wingnuts starting pitcher Alex Boshers won his sixth straight decision and improved his mark to 10-3 on the season. Boshers allowed six earned runs on 10 hits in 7 2/3 innings pitched. For Winnipeg in the losing effort, DH Josh Romanski went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI.
Sioux City 8, Lincoln 0 (Suspended/Rain – Top 4)
The game between Sioux City and Lincoln was suspended due to rain in the top of the 4th inning with the Explorers leading 8-0. The contest will resume play at 5:05 PM on Friday, August 12 followed by the regularly scheduled game.
