St. Paul 10, Sioux City 5 — Box Score
The St. Paul Saints scored nine runs in the first four innings and held on to take a 10-5 win against the Sioux City Explorers.
The Saints leadoff man RF Danny Oh went 3-for-6 on the night with an RBI and a run scored. CF Breland Almadova, hitting in the No. 2 spot, also had a nice night at the plate as he went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Six other Saints had hits in the game including C Maxx Garrett and SS Tanner Vavra, who each had a pair.
For the Explorers, RF Michael Lang went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and 1B John Nogowski went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Saints starting pitcher Mark Hamburger improved to 4-1 on the season after working 7.2 innings and giving up five runs on 11 hits while striking out two batters.
Wichita 15, Kansas City 3 — Box Score
The Wichita Wingnuts saw multi-hit games from seven different batters on their way to a 15-3 win against the Kansas City T-Bones.
SS Leo Vargas led the way with four hits on the night including his second home run of the season. Three Wingnuts – RF Richard Prigatano, CF T.J. Mittelstaedt and C Zac Fisher – each had three hits on the night. 1B Matt Chavez and 3B Martin Medina each added home runs for the Wingnuts. Chavez had four RBI in the game, giving him a league-leading 31 on the year.
For the T-Bones, DH Kevin Keyes and 2B Zach Walters had two-hit games and Keyes hit his 10th home run of the year, which also leads the league.
Salina 7, Cleburne 0 — Box Score
The Salina Stockade snapped their losing streak with a 7-0 win against the Cleburne Railroaders.
The Stockade’s pitching staff combined to throw a three-hitter on the night. Starting pitcher Connor Bach earned the win for working five innings and allowing one hit while striking out six batters. Both relievers Skylar Hunter and Tyler Herr worked two innings and had two strikeouts while preserving the shutout.
Offensively, the Stockade had 11 hits and four came from LF Jimmy Heck who had a double, a triple and three runs scored. 1B Kewby Meyer, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, and DH Mike Blanke each homered in the game.
Lincoln 2, Fargo-Moorhead 0 – Final-6 Innings/Rain shortened — Box Score
The Lincoln Saltdogs claimed a 2-0 win against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in game that was shorted to five and a half innings by rain.
The Saltdogs scored both of their runs in the top of the third inning as 2B Cesar Valera doubled and then scored when 3B Tommy Mendonca traded places with him and then Mendonca scored in the next at-bat on a DH Curt Smith single. Valera, Smith and RF Randolph Oduber each had two hits in the game.
For the RedHawks, LF Devan Ahart went 2-for-3, with two doubles. Starting pitcher Carlos Pimentel earned the win for working five shutout innings, allowing five hits and striking out five batters.
Sioux Falls 5, Gary SouthShore 2 – Final-5 Innings/Rain shortened — Box Score
The Sioux Falls Canaries scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 5-2 lead against the Gary SouthShore RailCats and the game was called in the next half inning due to rain.
The RailCats did score a run in the top of the sixth but when the game was called, the score reverted to the last full completed inning. The game was tied at 2-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth but C Michael Falsetti hit a lead-off triple and scored when RF Jabari Henry, who was 3-for-3, singled in the next at-bat to break the tie. Henry scored on a double from DH Aaron Gretz and LF Burt Reynolds scored later in the inning on a sac fly from 2B Patrick Fiala.
The RailCats scored both of their runs in the top of the second as 2B John Holland singled home 1B Alex Crosby and C Wilfredo Gimenez scored on a sac fly from 3B Randy Santiesteban.
