Durham, N.C. — St. Paul Saints RHP Mark Hamburger is the American Association’s Pitcher of the Week for the week ending July 10, as selected by Pointstreak, the league’s official statistician.
Hamburger improved his record to 9-0 with a pair of complete-game victories this week, beginning with a 9-2 win over Joplin on Tuesday in which he limited the Blasters to one earned run on eight hits, striking out four. He was equally strong on Sunday, allowing a run on seven hits with seven K’s as the Saints downed divisional foe Fargo-Moorhead, 3-1.
The St. Paul native’s nine victories lead the league, as do his 87.0 innings pitched. He has walked just 11 hitters in that span, while striking out 48. A former big-leaguer with the Texas Rangers, Hamburger is in his second season with the Saints, having also pitched for the club in 2013.
