Fargo-Moorhead 5, Kansas City 4 (Game 1/10 Innings) – Box Score

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and the Kansas City T-Bones were only scheduled for seven innings in the first game of their Wednesday doubleheader but they played 10 anyway before the RedHawks pulled away 5-4.

The RedHawks tied the game at 4-4 when 1B Chris Jacobs (3-for-5) singled and then took second on an error in the top of seventh inning. That play allowed CF Devan Ahart to score and forced extra innings. In the 10th, 3B Leobaldo Pina scored what turned into the game-winning run on an error by the catcher.

In the bottom of the frame, 1B Noah Perio Jr. (2-for-4), who reached base on a walk, made it all the way to third base before DH Alay Lago bounced out to second to end the game.

 

Fargo-Moorhead 3, Kansas City 0 (Game 2/7 Innings) – Box Score

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks completed the sweep of their doubleheader with he Kansas City T-Bones with a 3-0 win in game two Wednesday night.

Starting pitcher Will Solomon paved the way as he tossed a complete game (seven innings) without allowing a run on just three hits. He walked two batters and struck out two batters as well. The win moves him to 9-6 on the year and it marks his 20th win in the American Association for his career.

At the plate, RF Tim Colwell scored the first run on a sac fly from 1B Chris Jacobs in the top of the first inning. The game’s only other runs came on back-to-back RBI singles from C Quinn Irey and SS Yhoxian Medina (2-for-3) in the fourth.

 

Sioux City 3, Chicago 2 – Box Score

The Sioux City Explorers eared win number 60 on the season with a 3-2 victory against the Chicago Dogs.

The Explorers took the lead in the bottom of the first inning after 3B Jose Sermo doubled home SS Nate Samson (2-for-4) but the Dogs tied things back up in the top of the second with a SS Stephen Perez RBI single. In the fourth, Sermo scored on a triple from 2B Jay Baum but the Dogs answered again in the seventh with a sac fly from RF Rubi Silva.

Sioux City took the lead for good in the bottom of the seventh when Samson’s infield single allowed  LF Blake Schmit to score.

 

Gary SouthShore 6, Winnipeg 4 – Box Score

The Gary SouthShore RailCats held off a late push from the Winnipeg Goldeyes to claim a 6-4 win on Wednesday night at U.S. Steel Yard.

The opening run came in the top of the third when 2B Jordan Ebert (3-for3) scored on a RF Josh Romanski putout but DH Andy Paz (2-for-4) gave the home team the lead in the bottom of the frame with a two-run home run. RF Colin Willis added a run for the RailCats in the next inning as he scored on an error. SS Andy DeJesus added to the lead with a single that plated two more runs in the sixth and Paz scored the RailCats’ final run on a seventh inning C Wilfredo Gimenez (2-for-4) single.

CF Reggie Abercrombie’s 14th home run of the year pulled the Goldeyes within four runs in the top of the eighth and in the ninth, C Gavin Stupienski’s RBI triple and another RBI from Abercrombie (2-for-5) brought Winnipeg to within two runs. But 3B Tucker Nathans’ strikeout following Abercrombie’s RBI single ended the game.

 

 

St. Paul 11, Sioux Falls 8 – Box Score

The St. Paul Saints used a six-run seventh inning to drop the Sioux Falls Canaires 11-8 on Wednesday afternoon at CHS Field.

The Saints were trailing 7-5 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning but quickly went to work. LF Burt Reynolds scored the first run of the rally on an error by the catcher but he would have scored anyway because DH Brady Shoemaker (2-for-5) hit a home run in the next at-bat. Three batters later, 1B Nathaniel Maggio (2-for-4) doubled home 2B Zach Walters, tying the score and chasing reliever Nicco Blank.

But reliever John Straka couldn’t cool off the Saints either as C Aaron Gretz (2-for-4) hit a three-run home run in the next at-bat to give the Saints the lead for good.

For the Canaries, 1B Jeff Malm went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and a home run and RF Jabari Henry went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, two runs scored, two walks and a home run as well.

 

Lincoln 5, Wichita 2 (Game 1/7 Innings) – Box Score

The Lincoln Saltdogs bounced back from giving up the first run of the game in the first inning to beat the Wichita Wingnuts 5-2 in game one of their doubleheader Wednesday evening.

2B Logan Trowbridge (2-for-2) scored in the bottom of the first for the Wingnuts as LF Tony Thomas (2-for-3) singled, but the Saltdogs took the lead in the second thanks to RBI singles from RF Randolph Oduber and SS Ivan Marin in addition to a sac fly from 2B Cesar Valera. DH Curt Smith (2-for-3) added a solo home run in the third and LF Brandon Jacobs did the same in the fifth, their 15th and 17th of 2018, respectively.

Wichita’s only other run came in the third when Thomas doubled home CF Angel Reyes.

The Saltdogs and the Wingnuts were postponed Tuesday due to rain and forced into a twinbill on Wednesday.

 

Lincoln 7, Wichita 1 (Game 2/7 Innings) – Box Score

The Lincoln Saltdogs rolled to a sweep of their midweek twinbill on Wednesday night after topping the Wichita Wingnuts 7-1 in game two.

All nine Saltdogs recorded at least one hit in the game and DH Curt Smith had a tremendous outing as he went 4-for-4 (6-for-7 on the day). Smith hit his second homer of the day and 16th of the year in the top of the first inning. But 3B Christian Ibarra had the first roundtripper of the night cap as he sent the second pitch of the night out of the park. LF Brandon Jacobs also homered in the second game after doing so in the first, giving him 18 on the year, just one shy of league leader LF Tony Thomas of Wichita.

Wichita’s lone run came when 2B Logan Watkins (2-for-3) scored when 1B Abel Nieves bounced out in the third.

 

Cleburne 13, Texas 5 – Box Score

The Cleburne Railroader’s nine run sixth inning proved to be too much for the Texas AirHogs to overcome and the Railroaders walked away with a 13-5 win.

In the sixth, Cleburne sent 14 batter to the plate and recorded six hits, drew five walks and was hit by a pitch. Of the six hits, three went for more than one base and all of them came with two outs. 3B Alex Polston (2-for-6) had a two-RBI triple in the middle of the rally and 1B Patrick Palmeiro (2-for-3) added a two-run single later in the frame.

DH Angelo Gumbs had a team-high three hits in the game.

For the AirHogs, SS Casio Grider went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored and both CF Dillon Thomas and 3B Cao Yijie added a pair of hits.
