REDHAWKS SWEEP GOLDEYES

Fargo-Moorhead 4, Winnipeg 2- Box Score

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (37-28) completed a three-game sweep of the Winnipeg Goldeyes (29-36) with a 4-2 win on Sunday.

Devan Ahart (2-for-5) hit a solo home run (8) in the second at-bat of the game to give the RedHawks a 1-0 lead. In the next frame, the Goldeyes responded with a two-run home run off the bat of Reggie Abercrombie (3-for-5) his 10th home run of the season. Fargo-Moorhead tied the game on a Derrick Fox sacrifice fly in the top of the second. The RedHawks took the 4-2 lead on back-to-back RBI singles by Ahart and Leobaldo Pina in the top of the fifth.

Fargo-Moorhead’s starter D.J. Brown (8-1) earned the win after allowing just two earned in six innings of work, walking four, allowing five hits, and striking out one in the process.

Randy McCurry pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the save (12).

 

Chicago 3, Kansas City 2- Box Score

The Chicago Dogs (26-40) edged the Kansas City T-Bones (43-23) by a score of 3-2 on Sunday.

The T-Bones took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Keith Curcio (1-for-4) brought in the first run with an RBI single and scored two batters later on a single by Tucker Pennell (2-for-3).

Those runs were the last allowed by Dogs’ starter Josh Goosen-Brown (5-5) who went seven innings to earn the win.

Chicago cut the deficit to one with a Joe Benson RBI single in the top of the fourth. In the next inning, Edwin Arroyo (3-for-5) hit an RBI single to tie the game and in the sixth Matt Dean hit an RBI single to give the Dogs a 3-2 lead.

Taylor Grover pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the save (5).

 

Wichita 5, Sioux Falls 3- Box Score

John Nester led the Wichita Wingnuts (41-25) to a 5-3 win over the Sioux Falls Canaries (26-40) on Sunday.

The Canaries took a 1-0 lead on a Jabari Henry RBI single in the bottom of the first. One inning later, Patrick Fiala (2-for-4) pushed the lead to 2-0 with a solo home run (5).

In the next frame, Nester (3-for-3) came through with his first big hit of the day, a bases clearing double to put the Wingnuts on top 3-2. Sioux Falls tied the game on an error in the bottom of the third, but that would be their last run scored off of Colin Harman (8-2) who earned the win after giving up three runs (two earned) in six innings of work.

Nester picked up his final RBI in the bottom of the fifth when he hit a sacrifice fly to score the go-ahead run. The Wingnuts scored on an error in the top of the eighth to get their insurance run.

Daniel Tillman pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the save (18).
