REDHAWKS’ JIM BENNETT NAMED 2019 MANAGER OF THE YEAR

MOORHEAD, MN — The American Association announced Wednesday September 4 that Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks’ manager Jim Bennett has been named the American Association’s 2019 Manager of the Year.

Bennett earned the award in his first season as manager of the RedHawks after leading the Fargo-Moorhead to a 63-37 record and their first playoff appearance since 2013.

Signed by the Seattle Mariners in 1988, the California native pitched in the Mariners’ and San Diego Padres’ organizations for three years, reaching the High-A level. His pitching career ended in 1991 as he played for Fiorentina in Italy’s Series A2, going 5-3 with a 1.23 ERA.

Bennett began his coaching career in 1992 and spent the next 16 seasons coaching in the California/ Anaheim Angels, Oakland Athletics, Colorado Rockies, San Diego Padres, and San Francisco Giants organizations. He returned to the bench with the Perth Heat in the 2014-2015 Australian Baseball League. In 2015, Bennett was named as the pitching/bench coach for the Brisbane Bandits, who have won the last four ABL Championships. Recently, he was named the pitching coach for the Australian National Team.
