REDHAWKS DASH SIOUX FALLS’ NINTH-INNING COMEBACK HOPES

Fargo-Moorhead 5, Sioux Falls 3 — Box Score

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks held off a ninth-inning rally from the Sioux Falls Canaries to claim a 5-3 win.

In the top of the ninth, the Canaries loaded up the bases with a hit by pitch and a pair of walks but reliever Casey Weathers struck out DH Burt Reynolds to end the game and pick up his eighth save of the year. The RedHawks scored a pair of runs in the first inning thanks to solo home runs from DH Vaughn Bryan and SS Josh Mazzola and they never trailed from there. The Canaries cut the lead to one run twice but never tied the game.

LF Devan Ahart hit a two-run home run in the seventh to give his team a 5-2 lead. Mazzola and RF K.D. Kang each had two hits for the RedHawks.

 

Salina 7, Cleburne 1 — Box Score

The Salina Stockade saw a gem from starting pitcher Chris Cody and turned that into a 7-1 win against the Cleburne Railroaders.

Cody (1-2) went the distance in the win and allowed one earned run on three hits. He walked just one batter and struck out five and he finished off the game in 99 pitches – 73 of which went for strikes. Cleburne’s lone run came in the bottom of the eighth when CF Fernelys Sanchez scored when 3B Brandon Tierney bounced out to short.

For the Stockade, C Jesse Baker and 1B Cody Coffman went 2-for-3 in the game and Coffman had a pair of RBI. 3B Jordan Caillouet and C Roche Woodard both also added two RBIs.

 

Wichita 10, Texas 2 — Box Score

The Wichita Wingnuts put up eight runs in the first four innings and rolled from there to a 10-2 win against the Texas AirHogs.

The Wingnuts saw hits from eight of the nine batters in the order including a 3-for-4 showing from RF Richard Prigatano, who added three RBI. DH Brent Clevlen went 2-for-3 with two RBI and SS Leo Vargas also had a triple and two RBI. 3B T.J. Mittelstaedt added his 41st RBI on the year, keeping him atop the league in that category.

Starting pitcher Alex Boshers (5-2) earned the win for working eight innings and allowing one unearned run on six hits. For the AirHogs, CF Trevor Sealy and 1B Levi Scott had two hits.
