RAY, FREEMAN ANNOUNCED AS ALL-STAR REPLACEMENTS

DURHAM, N.C.- The American Association has announced two roster updates for the 2017 American Association/Can-Am League All-Star game to be held July 25 in Ottawa, Ontario.

American Association All-Star Manager Rick Forney has selected Sioux City Explorers OF Jayce Ray and Texas AirHogs LHP Michael Freeman as replacement players on the 20-man All-Star roster.

Ray is hitting .306 through 47 games for Sioux City. He has collected 10 doubles, a triple, five home runs and 26 RBI. 2017 marks his first season with the Explorers, having spent the 2015 season with the Wichita Wingnuts and the 2016 campaign in the Boston Red Sox system. The Sonoma, Calif. native also has experience in the Frontier League and Pacific Association. He replaces SS Nate Samson as Sioux City’s representative on the team.

Freeman is 3-1 with a 2.84 ERA over 12 appearances, eight of them starts, for Texas. He has struck out 48 in 50.2 innings of work. The former Oklahoma State University hurler is in his first season with the AirHogs after two seasons in the Houston Astros system. He replaces RHP James Russell as the AirHogs’ All-Star representative.

The American Association All-Stars, previously announced on July 5, will compete against the Can-Am League All-Stars in the July 25 game in Ottawa.
