Cleburne 1, Sioux City 0 (11 Innings) – Box Score
After 10 scoreless innings, the Cleburne Railroaders broke through to claim a 1-0 win against the Sioux City Explorers in 11.
The game’s only run came from SS Daniel Robertson who drew a one-out walk in the top of the 11th, took second when 3B Chase Simpson walked and took third when CF Zach Nehrir singled. On the same play, Robertson scored thanks to an error by the third baseman. In the bottom of the frame, 2B Drew Stankiewicz (2-for-5) led off with a single but the next three batters went down in order to seal the Railroaders’ win.
No Railroader had more than one hit but three Explorers (Stankiewicz RF Jeremy Hazelbaker and C Dylan Kelly) each had a pair. Cleburne’s Nefi Ogando was tabbed as the winner for recording five outs in the ninth and 10th innings and retiring a pair via strikeout. Tyler Wilson sealed the game and earned the save.
Lincoln 3, Sioux Falls 0 – Box Score
The Lincoln Saltdogs blanked the Sioux Falls Canaries 3-0 on Friday evening to take the first game of the series.
Starter John Brownell claimed the win for throwing six innings and allowing just seven hits while striking out eight batters. Reliever Reese Gregory closed things out with a nine-out save, giving up just one hit, one walk and recording one strikeout.
Offensively for the Saltdogs, 2B Ivan Marin hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth and CF Forrestt Allday added a sac flay later in the frame to take a 2-0 lead. In the next inning, 1B Tyler Moore (2-for-3) scored when SS Christian Ibarra (2-for-4) singled.
For the Canaries, 3B Kevin Taylor had a team-high two hits.
St. Paul 9, Gary SouthShore 7 – Box Score
The St. Paul Saints cut short a ninth-inning rally from the Gary SouthShore RailCats to preserve a 9-7 win.
The Saints began to build their lead in the third inning as 2B Josh Allen scored on a sac fly from 1B Chris Baker and SS Joey Wong and CF Dan Motl added RBI base hits. LF John Silviano homered twice in the game for the Saints, both solo shots, and RF Michael Lang also had a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh. 3B Chesny Young plated to crucial runs in the eighth with a triple to give the Saints a 9-4 lead.
In the ninth, the RailCats loaded up the bases before the first out and, after a pitching change, pinch hitter Raymond James drew a walk to score DH Thomas Walraven. SS Marcus Mooney hit a two-out single to left field that plated two more runs but pinch hitter Andy DeJesus struck out swinging in the next at-bat to end the game.
Chicago 5, Fargo-Moorhead 1 – Box Score
The Chicago Dogs scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to top the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 5-1.
The RedHawks took the lead in the top of the second inning when C Daniel Comstock lifted a sacrifice fly to right field that scored 1B Correlle Prime (2-for-5). But the Dogs made sure that would be the only time the RedHawks found home plate on the night. Chicago did all of its damage at the plate in the eighth inning beginning with a two-out triple from 3B Gustavo Pierre (2-for-4). He scored when RF Tony Rosselli (2-for-4) singled and Rosselli scored when CF David Olemdo-Barrera (2-for-5) doubled.
In the next at-bat, Olmedo-Barrera and C Ray Gonzalez both scored on a single from 2B Edwin Arroyo (2-for-5) and Arroyo capped the rally by scoring on a double from 1B Trey Vavra.
Milwaukee 5, Winnipeg 4 (Game 1/9 Innings) – Box Score
Winnipeg 1, Milwaukee 0 (Game 2/7 Innings) – Box Score
The Milwaukee Milkmen walked off on the Winnipeg Goldeyes 5-4 in the first game of their Friday double header.
The contest was set for seven innings but was tied 4-4 after the seventh and went to extras. C Manuel Boscan (2-for-5) delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the ninth with a single that plated CF Derek Reddy (2-for-3). LF Adam Walker and 3B Jose Rosario each added a pair of hits for the Milkmen.
For the Goldeyes, 3B Wes Darville went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI and DH Willy Garcia added a pair of hits.
The Goldeyes bounced back in the second game and took a 1-0 win thanks to a double from RF Jonathan Moroney in the top of the seventh inning that plated Garcia. Goldeye starting pitcher Kevin McGovern earned the win in game two for working six scoreless innings while allowing four hits and striking out seven batters.
Kansas City 7, Texas 2 – Box Score
A first inning three-run home run from 1B Casey Gillaspie kicked off a 7-2 win for the Kansas City T-Bones against the Texas AirHogs.
The AirHogs struck first as 1B Chen Junpeng doubled home 2B/LF Li Ning in the top of the first but DH Christopher Colabello (2-for-2) tied the score with a single that scored 2B Dylan Tice in the bottom of the frame. In the next at-bat, Gillaspie hit his 11th home run of the year to put the T-Bones ahead 4-1.
In the fifth, RF Tyler Marincov (2-for-4) hit a three-run shot to double the T-Bones’ lead. SS Yang Jin singled in the top of the ninth to plate RF Stewart IJames (2-for-4) but that would be the final run of the game.
Starting pitcher Dylan Baker earned the win as he went eight innings and gave up one run on three hits while striking out five batters.
