RAILROADERS BEAT SALTDOGS FOR SERIES SWEEP

Cleburne 11, Lincoln 2 – Box Score

Cleburne finished off the three-game sweep of Lincoln as they rolled past the Saltdogs by the score of 11-2.

The Railroaders pounded out 16 hits in the contest with seven batters picking-up multi-hit games. Cleburne 1B Grant Buck the led way at the plate going 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI. Railroaders 3B Chase Simpson launched a home run in a 2-for-5 night while C/DH Hunter Clanin, LF Nick Rotola and RF K.C. Huth each contributed two runs, two hits and two RBIs.

Cleburne starting pitcher Stephen Johnson tossed six solid innings of baseball and notched the victory. The righty gave up an earned run on four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. With the win, Johnson is now 4-1 on the year.

Designated hitter Curt Smith hit a solo home run and drew a pair of walks in the loss for Lincoln.

 

Texas 4, Milwaukee 0 – Box Score

Texas starting pitcher Kevin Hilton and reliever Tyler Matzek combined on a three-hit shutout as Texas downed Milwaukee by a final of 4-0.

Hilton went the first eight innings of the contest allowing the three hits and a walk while striking out nine batters. The Cal State-San Marcos product threw 103 pitches, 71 for strikes, and earned his third win of the season. Matzek tossed the final inning and gave up a walk with two strikeouts in the four batters he faced.

Offensively for the AirHogs, 2B Li Ning led the way going 3-for-4 with a run scored. Texas RF Brett Eibner went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run while 1B Stewart Ijames and 3B Matt Dean each collected two hits and an RBI. In total, the AirHogs had four batters with multi-hit games.

 

St. Paul 8, Kansas City 6 – Box Score

St. Paul jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings of play and would go to beat Kansas City by an 8-6 final. The T-Bones scored two runs in the top of the seventh to make it just a 6-5 Saints lead but St. Paul added a pair of its own in the bottom frame to put the contest away.

The Saints banged out 11 hits as a team with five batters collecting two of them. St. Paul DH Brady Shoemaker led the way going 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and three RBIs. Saints SS Chris Baker contributed two runs and three RBIs in a 2-for-3 night while leadoff hitter Dan Motl added two hits, two runs and an RBI.

St. Paul pitcher Ryan Smith threw 2 1/3 innings of relief and grabbed his second victory of the season. Smith allowed an earned run on two hits and fanned three batters.

For Kansas City in the losing effort, DH Chris Colabello had a 2-for-4 night with a run and three RBIs.

 

Sioux Falls 8, Winnipeg 6 – Box Score

Trailing 4-3 after four innings of action, Sioux Falls tallied five runs over their next two trips to the plate to take the lead for good and beat Winnipeg, 8-6.

The Canaries had five batters with multi-hit outings, including SS Andrew Ely who went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. Sioux Falls 2B Alay Lago had three hits in four at-bats along with an RBI while CF Brett Vertigan drove in a pair of runs in a 2-for-4 night. In total, the Canaries picked-up 14 hits in the game.

Sioux Falls pitcher Will Solomon tossed 3 2/3 innings of relief and nabbed his third victory with the team. Solomon gave up four earned runs on six hits and struck out two batters.

For Winnipeg, 1B Kyle Martin and 3B Dominic Ficociello each drove in two runs and contributed a hit.

 

Gary SouthShore 10, Fargo-Moorhead 7 – Box Score

Gary SouthShore gained a split in the four-game series with Fargo-Moorhead as they beat the RedHawks, 10-7. RailCats 3B Thomas Walraven launched a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 7-7 tie and give Gary SouthShore the lead for good.

Walraven led the way at the plate for the RailCats as he went 3-for-3 with two home runs and six RBIs. Gary SouthShore PR/CF MJ Rookard plated three runs in a 1-for-2 night while 1B Alex Crosby and SS Marcus Mooney each collected a hit and scored a pair of runs. In total, the RailCats had seven hits.

Gary SouthShore relief pitcher Jack Alkire tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings and earned his first win of the year. Alkire gave up two hits and fanned two batters in a 24-pitch outing.

First baseman Correlle Prime had a three-hit night with three RBIs in the loss for Fargo-Moorhead.
