Gary2

Gary 5, Fargo-Moorhead 1 – Box

The Railcats took the series finale on Sunday to win two out of three games against the Redhawks. The Railcats scored early, putting a run on the board with a RBI groundout in the second inning. In the fifth they added four more runs, giving LHP Braulio Torres-Perez plenty of run support, as the Redhawks could only muster one run over nine innings. The big play of the fifth was a two-run double from LF Anthony Cheky Jr. The double put Gary up 4-0, as they went on to score one more run in the inning. Torres-Perez (4-0) spun a gem, going seven scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and striking out six batters.

Wichita 3, Cleburne 1 – Box

Neither team scored in the first four innings of the game, but the fifth inning was a different story, with both clubs exchanging runs. In the sixth, the Wingnuts added two more runs, courtesy of a RBI putout followed by a solo home run from 1B Matt Chavez. The home run was Chavez’s seventh on the year and gave the Wingnuts a 3-1 lead. The Railroaders were unable to cut into the Wingnuts lead, thanks to three more scoreless innings from three relief pitchers, and the Wingnuts went on to win 3-1. RHP Austin Boyle threw a scoreless sixth inning to pick up his first win of the year. RHP Seth Harvey earned the save, his sixth of 2017.

Sioux City 2, Kansas City 3 – Box

After dropping the first three games of the series, the T-Bones won the series finale, their 19th win of the year. They took a 1-0 lead in the first, on a RBI single from 1B Kyle Petty. The teams exchanged blows, with the Explorers scoring two runs in the sixth on a two-run homer from SS Nate Samson. The T-Bones tied it in the seventh, and neither team scored again until the bottom of the ninth. With the bases loaded in the ninth, Petty walked to score the game-winning run, as the T-Bones won 3-2. Petty finished the game 1-4 with two RBIs. RHP Scott Carroll pitched eight strong innings in the win, allowing two runs on three hits but failed to earn a decision. RHP Cody Winiarski pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his first win of the year.
