RAILCATS SPLIT SERIES WITH WALK-OFF WIN

Gary SouthShore 5, Kane County 4 – Box Score

The Gary SouthShore RailCats (15-19) walked off on the Kane County Cougars 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon to split the four-game set.

The RailCats entered the bottom of the ninth trailing 4-3 but quickly put the winning run on base with back-to-back lead-off walks. After a wild pitch, SS Thomas Walraven hit into a fielder’s choice that allowed LF MJ Rookard (2-for-4) to score the tying run. 3B Hayden Schilling drew a walk in the next at-bat and then RF Jesus Marriaga (2-for-5) singled to center field to plate Walraven and end the game.

For the Cougars, LF Anthony Ray and RF Jeffrey Baez each went 2-for-3 and 3B Gavin LaValley and 1B Kacy Clemens each added home runs.

 

Chicago 11, Fargo-Moorhead 7 – Box Score

The Chicago Dogs (21-13) edged the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 11-7 on Wednesday night at Newman Outdoor Field.

Seven Dogs recorded hits in the game and six of them had multiple hits in the game. RF Danny Mars led the way as he was a home run shy of the cycle and went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs. LF Anfernee Grier also had three hits as he went 3-for-6 with two runs. CF Michael Crouse and 3B Johnny Adams each had two this and two RBIs including Crouse’s third home run of the year.

For the RedHawks, 3B Leobaldo Pina went 3-for-5 with a double, homer and two RBIs. DH Jordan George and SS Sam Dexter each added a pair of hits.

 

Cleburne 11, Winnipeg 6 – Box Score

The Cleburne Railroaders (16-16) have clawed back to .500 with their fifth win in a row after tackling the Winnipeg Goldeyes 11-6 on Wednesday in Jackson, Tenn.

The Railroaders took the lead for good in the top of the fifth inning as they posted four runs thanks to RBI singles from 3B Chase Simpson (3-for-5) and RF Hunter Clanin (2-for-4) and a two-RBI double from DH Grant Buck. In the sixth, Simpson added a two-run home run and CF Zach Nehrir scored on an error later in the frame. LF Noah Vaughan scored on a pass ball in the seventh for the Railroaders’ final run of the day.

SS Osvaldo Martinez went 5-for-5 with two runs and 1B Ramon Hernandez went 4-for-5 with four runs and an RBI.

For the Goldeyes, 2B Kevin Lachance and CF Tyler Hill each had a pair of hits.

 

Sioux Falls 12, Houston 3 – Box Score

The Sioux Falls Canaries took game two of their three-game set with the Houston Apollos 12-3 to level the series at 1-1.

The Apollos struck first in the top of the first inning as DH Mike Annone singled home 1B Ramon Villa but the Canaries took the lead in the home half of the frame. DH Jabari Henry singled home LF Cade Gotta (2-for-5) and scored later in the inning alongside 3B Nick Gotta (3-for-5) when 1B Trey Michalczewski (2-for-5) doubled. Michalczewski scored when 2B Mitch Glasser singled in the next at-bat.

Nick Gotta added two more RBIs in the fourth, C Shamoy Christopher chipped in a three-run homer in the sixth and, in the eighth, Glasser scored on a CF Wyatt Ulrich ground out and Cade Gotta singled home SS Angelo Altavilla.

The Apollos scored a pair of runs late thanks to an RBI single from 2B Brian Dansereau and an error that allowed C Hudson Bilodeau to score in the ninth.

 

 

Sioux City 12, Lincoln 1 – Box Score

The Sioux City Explorers (22-11) picked up their fifth win in a row and eighth in the last 10 contests with a 12-1 victory against the Lincoln Saltdogs. With 22 wins, the Explorers currently lead the South Division and sport the best record in the American Association.

Back-to-back RBI base knocks from SS Nate Samson (2-for-4) and 3B Chris Clare (3-for-5) in the top of the first inning set the tone for the night. In the third, the Explorers added five more runs with two RBIs from DH Sebastian Zawada (3-for-5), RBI base hits from Samson and RF Lane Milligan and an RBI fielder’s choice from C Mitch Ghelfi. Sioux City added three more runs in the fourth and another pair in the eighth to put things well out of reach.

The Saltdogs were held to just five hits in the game and their lone run came in the third when SS Josh Altmann (2-for-3) hit a solo home run.

 

Kansas City 20, Milwaukee 5 – Box Score

The Kansas City Monarchs tallied 23 hits and toppled the Milwaukee Milkmen 20-5 on Wednesday night at Franklin Field.

All nine Monarchs recorded hits in the game and eight of them had multi-hit games. 2B Ryan Grotjohn led the way as he went 5-for-7 with three RBIs and three runs scored. 3B Darnell Sweeney went 4-for-6 with two RBIs and four runs including his 13th double of the year. C Alexis Olmeda added a 3-for-6 showing with three runs.

1B Casey Gillaspie had five RBIs including his ninth home run of the year and RF Gabriel Guerrero added four RBIs.

For the Milkmen, 3B Logan Trowbridge went 2-for-5, SS Anibal Sierra went 2-for-4. In the sixth inning, C Christ Conley hit a three-run homer and LF Adam Brett Walker II hit his 10th homer of the season.
