Gary SouthShore 4, Sioux Falls 3 – Box Score

A sacrifice fly from 2B Will Savage in the bottom of the eighth inning made the difference as the Gary SouthShore RailCats topped the Sioux Falls Canaries 4-3.

The RailCats opened the scoring in the bottom of the fifth inning when LF Tillman Pugh singled home Savage after he hit a lead-off triple. Pugh scored alongside 3B Randy Santiesteban (2-for-4) when C Andy Paz singled to center field later in the inning. The Canaries drew one back in the sixth with a 1B Jeff Malm (2-for-4) RBI single and they tied the score in the top of the eighth when 3B Patrick Fiala hit a two-run home run.

In the bottom of the inning, Paz was hit by a pitch to lead things off. He stole second and took third on a sacrifice from CF D.K. Carey before scoring when Savage lifted a ball to left field.

 

Sioux City 2, Winnipeg 0 – Box Score

The Sioux City Explorers shutout the Winnipeg Goldeyes to claim a 2-0 win Saturday night at Shaw Park.

The game’s only runs came in the top of the sixth inning. C Dylan Kelly bounced into a fielder’s choice that allowed 1B Dean Green to score and, in the next at-bat, 2B Jay Baum scored on a single from DH Dexture McCall (2-for-4). That proved to be all the run support necessary for the Explorers.

Starting pitcher Dominic Topoozian picked up his first win after tossing 6.2 innings and allowing six hits and a walk but no runs. Reliever Eric Karch took the save, his 21st of 2018, for working the ninth.

For the Goldeyes, 3B Tucker Nathans had a team-high two hits.

 

Kansas City 5, Cleburne 3 – Box Score

The Kansas City T-Bones used a three-run sixth inning to pull away from the Cleburne Railroaders 5-3.

The night opened with a lively first inning that saw DH Levi Scott (2-for-3) single in a run and then score when 1B Angelo Gumbs hit into a fielder’s choice. The T-Bones pulled one back in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single from DH Colin Walsh (2-for-3). LF Ryan Brett, who scored on Walsh’s single, touched home again in the third thanks to CF Todd Cunningham’s triple.

The T-Bones put Cleburne away in the sixth as Brett drew a bases-loaded walk, 3B Mason Davis lifted a sav fly and SS Anthony Phillips (1-for-1, 2 BBs) scored on a wild pitch.

 

Fargo-Moorhead 8, St. Paul 4 – Box Score

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks doubled up the St. Paul Saints 8-4 on Saturday night at CHS Field.

The Saints scored in the bottom of the first when CF Kyle Barrett scored after 1B Brady Shoemaker singled but the RedHawks tied things in the second after DH Keury De La Cruz (2-for-4) scored on an error. Fargo-Moorhead took the lead in the next frame when RF Tim Colwell (2-for-5) doubled in a run and then scored with C Quinn Irey (2-for-3) when 3B Leobaldo Pina singled later in the inning.

Colwell doubled in three more runs in the fourth, providing more than enough offense to secure the win. 3B Dante Bichette Jr. hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth but the Saints never pulled any closed than four runs.

 

Chicago 6, Wichita 2 – Box Score

The Chicago Dogs held the Wichita Wingnuts to just two runs as they took a 6-2 road win.

Wichita struck first with a lead-off home run from 3B Chase Simpson (2-for-4) in the bottom of the second inning. Chicago took the lead in the top of the fourth with RBI base hits from DH Trey Vavra (3-for-5) and LF Tony Rosselli (2-for-4) but Simpson tied the score after scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the frame.

CF Kenny Wilson (3-for-5) pushed the Dogs back in front in the top of the fifth when he scored on a wild pitch. Vavra scored on SS Stephen Perez’ fielder’s choice in the eighth and, in the ninth, Vavra doubled home two more insurance runs.

 

Lincoln at Texas – Postponed (Rain)

The game between the Lincoln Saltdogs and the Texas AirHogs was postponed due to rain. It will be made up tomorrow, Saturday, Aug. 18, as a part of a doubleheader scheduled to being at 4:05 p.m.
