Gary SouthShore 5, Texas 3 – 12 Innings — Box Score

The Gary SouthShore RailCats scored a pair of runs in the top of the 12th inning to break a 3-3 tie and claim a 5-3 extra-inning win against the Texas AIrHogs.

The RailCats loaded up the bases in the top of the 12th inning and 2B Elbert Devarie singled to score CF Matt Petrone and break the tie. C Jose Gonzalez was hit by a pitch later in the inning to push 1B Jeremy Hamilton across. Reliever Taylor Black came on and sat the Railcats down in order to close out the win.

For the game, Petrone and SS Jared Mederos each had two hits and for the AirHogs, RF Austin Gallagher had a team-high two hits.

 

Sioux City 13, St. Paul 5 — Box Score

The Sioux City Explorers exploded for nine runs in the seventh and eighth innings to turn a 5-4 deficit in to a 13-5 win.

The Explorers took the lead for good in the top of the seventh inning with a six-run rally. Sioux City loaded up the bases and then saw a walk and an error in the next two at-bats to take the lead. LF Tim Colwell, who went 3-for-5, cleared the bases with a double later in the inning and then scored on a wild pitch to cap the rally. The Explorers kept things going in the eighth as SS Nate Sampson, who had five RBI in the game, pushed across another two runs with a double and then scored on a sacrifice fly from 1B Jarek Cunningham.

For the Saints, 2B Alonzo Harris, DH Tony Caldwell and C Maxx Garrett each had home runs in the game.

 

Wichita 9, Laredo 7 — Box Score

The Wichita Wingnuts held off a late surge from the Laredo Lemurs to claim a 9-7 win.

The Wingnuts were leading 9-3 heading into the final frame thanks to three RBI from C Martin Medina, two from LF T.J. Mittelsaedt and one each from 2B Christian Stringer, 3B Zack Cox, DH Brent Clevlen and 1B Dustin Geiger. In the bottom of the ninth, DH Dennis Phipps drew a bases-loaded walk and scored later in the inning when 2B J.D. Pulfer was hit by a pitch. In between, CF Drew Martinez scored when C Zane Chavez reached on a fielder’s choice and 3B Cesar Valera scored on an error.

Wichita’s Cox and Laredo’s Martinez each had a team-high two hits.
