Gary SouthShore 10, Lincoln 9 — Box Score
The Gary SouthShore RailCats used an eight-run fifth inning to move past the Lincoln Saltdogs 10-9.
The RailCats entered the fifth inning trailing 3-2 but quickly changed things. LF Joey Havrilak hit a lead-off triple and scored when RF Colin Willis singled in the next at bat. 3B Kris Goodman homered in the next at bat to give the RailCats a 5-3 lead. After Goodman cleared the bases, the RailCats loaded them up again. A walk by 2B Cole Fabio, a single by 1B Alex Crosby (plating two runs), an error and a sac fly gave the RailCats a comfortable 10-3 lead.
The Saltdogs rallied for five runs of their own in the eighth – two from a single from SS Cesar Valera and two from a double by 1B Curt Smith – but couldn’t draw any closer. For the RailCats, Havrilak had a team-high three hits and both Valera and CF Joe Robbins had three hits for the Saltdogs.
Winnipeg 4, Sioux City 3 — Box Score
The Winnipeg Goldeyes rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the final three innings to edge the Sioux City Explorers 4-3.
Winnipeg scored in the bottom of the first on a wild pitch but fell behind 3-1 after RF Michael Lang’s RBI single in the fourth and C Tyle Ogle’s two-run home run in the sixth. In the bottom of the seventh, 3B Wes Darvill doubled home 1B Shawn Pleffner and 2B Casey Turgeon drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the score. In the next frame, Pleffner doubled to score CF Reggie Abercrombie, who reached on a single, for the eventual game-winning run.
Of the seven hits the Goldeyes had in the game, Pleffner had a team-high two of them. For the Explorers, Ogle and Lang each had two hits and SS Nate Samson had the only other hit.
Texas 6, Salina 5 — Box Score
The Texas AirHogs put up five runs in the inning and never trailed on the way to a 6-5 win against the Salina Stockade.
In the bottom of the first inning, the first five batters each drew a walk to plate the first run. 1B Jake Taylor and SS Beamer Weems added sacrifice flies to score two more and 3B Ryne Willard capped the rally with a two-RBI double to center. The AirHogs added one more crucial run in the fifth as Willard reached on an error, allowing Taylor to score. The Stockade entered the top of the ninth down 6-4 and 3B Jordan Caillouet scored when SS Logan Trowbridge bounced out. But DH Cody Coffman flew out to right in the next at-bat to end the game.
On the night, Willard went 2-for-4 with two RBI and DH Levi Scott reached base four times with walks.
Kansas City 9, Cleburne 4 — Box Score
Led by a four-RBI night from CF Cedric Hunter, the Kansas City T-Bones took care of the Cleburne Railroaders 9-4.
The T-Bones racked up 14 hits in the game and eight of the nine batters had at least one hit. Hunter went 3-for-4 in the game, scored twice, including a solo home run,and tacked on four RBIs. DH Kevin Keyes also homered in the game, a two-run shot in the first inning that scored Hunter, giving him 77 RBIs on the year, just two behind Wichita’s Matt Chavez for the best in the league. LF Dexter Kjerstad also had three hits in the game ang scored twice.
For the Railroaders, 2B Maikol Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, his fourth of the year. DH Nick Van Stratten and LF Pichi Balet each also had two hits.
Wichita 8, St. Paul 3 — Box Score
The Wichita Wingnuts saw all nine batters record at least one hit as they beat the St. Paul Saints 8-3.
As a team, the Wingnuts tallied 14 hits and saw multi-hit games from three different batters. 3B T.J. Mittelstaedt led the way as he went 4-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI. Both RF Richard Prigatano and CF Tyler Sullivan added a pair of hits and Prigatano also hit his seventh home run of the season. C Martin Medina provided a pair of RBI as well.
For the Saints, LF Tony Thomas homered twice in the game and 1B Dan Johnson left the yard as well. DH Brady Shoemaker went added two hits for the Saints.
Fargo-Moorhead 3, Sioux Falls 2 – Game 1/7 Innings — Box Score
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks scored a pair of runs in the top of the seventh and final inning to top the Sioux Falls Canaries 3-2 in the first game of their Tuesday twin bill.
The Canaries took a 2-0 lead thanks to a LF Burt Reynolds RBI in the first and an RBI double from 1B Chris Jacobs in the third. But the RedHawks got on the board in the top of the fifth when RF K.D. Kang hit a lead-off double and scored when CF Devan Ahart singled one out later. In the seventh, LF Chris Grayson singled with the bases loaded to plate both Ahart and 2B Brandon Tierney to give the RedHawks the lead.
Reliver Casey Weathers sat the Canaries down in order in the bottom of the seventh to earn the save.
Sioux Falls 6, Fargo-Moorhead 5 – Game 2/7 Innings — Box Score
After falling in the first game of their doubleheader with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, the Sioux Falls Canaries bounced back in game two with a 6-5 win.
The Birds put up two runs in the first inning with a pair of bases-loaded hit by pitches to take the lead. In the third, RF Burt Reynolds scored when DH Jabari Henry singled and then Henry scored later in the inning when SS Blake Schmidt hit into a fielder’s choice. In the fourth, Reynolds reached base on an error and that play allowed both C Michael Falsetti, who went 2-for-3, and CF Dan Motl to score.
The Redhawks had taken a 5-4 lead in the top of the fourth inning thanks to an RBI single from C Joe DeLuca, an RBI groundout by 2B Brandon Tierney and a solo home run from CF Devan Ahart but those were the final runs of the game for Fargo-Moorhead.
