2013 Championship Series: Game Four

Box Score

Gary SouthShore 6, Wichita 5

Gary SouthShore climbed all the way to the title in its first appearance in the American Association playoffs. With a 6-5 victory in game four, the RailCats captured the 2013 championship over Wichita.

Though Gary SouthShore struck early and took a five-run lead into the sixth, a late rally by Wichita nearly undid the RailCats. The Wingnuts pulled within one of tying the game in the eighth and had the bases loaded with two outs. Kyle Lindquist got the RailCats out of the jam, though. The reliever induced an inning-ending line out to keep Gary SouthShore ahead going into the ninth.

In the end, an insurance run in the top of the eighth was the difference for Gary SouthShore. Zac Mitchell (pictured) got the RailCats started with a one-out triple and Daniel Pulfer hit a sacrifice fly to drive him home with the championship-winning run. After the RailCats escaped trouble in the eighth, Marco Gonzalez nailed down the title. The reliever allowed a hit, but recorded the save and secured Gary SouthShore’s first American Association championship.
