DURHAM, NC – Gary SouthShore won its first American Association championship on Saturday, vanquishing the Wichita Wingnuts in four games. Throughout the series, the RailCats saw production from top to bottom in their lineup, but it was their leadoff hitter who stood out above the rest. Adam Klein’s (pictured) offensive showing in the RailCats’ title run has earned him the distinction as the Championship Series Most Valuable Player.
Klein’s MVP performance was highlighted by his tremendous ability to reach base. The leadoff hitter was 8-for-15 (.533) with a pair of doubles and four walks in the series. When Klein reached base, he had a knack for finding home. The left fielder scored five times in the Championship Series and also drove in five runs.
Game three was easily Klein’s most successful at the dish. He was a perfect 4-for-4 with a double and a walk. Klein also scored four runs, including the eventual game-winner in the eighth inning, to pull the RailCats within one win of the title. The next day, Klein was 1-for-3 with two walks and a run scored in the series-clinching game.
