RAILCATS BATTLE BACK IN NINTH

Mitchell Action

June 18 Afternoon

Box Score

Gary SouthShore 7, Wichita 6

Three walks in the ninth inning, including one with the bases loaded, helped Gary SouthShore come back to beat Wichita, 7-6. The RailCats were trailing by one run entering their final at-bats, but loaded the bases with one out on two walks and a single. With the tying run on third, Craig Maddox battled Wingnuts reliever Josh Dew to a 3-2 count, fouled a pitch off and worked a game-tying walk. The next batter, Zac Mitchell (pictured) hit a sacrifice fly to center field, driving in Cristian Guerrero with the go-ahead run.

Jared McDonald singled off LHP Clay Zavada to lead off the bottom of the ninth, but he was erased when Maddox gunned him down trying to steal second. Zavada then settled down and finished off the comeback win to pick up his third victory of the season.
