RAILCATS’ BATS COME ALIVE IN 10-4 WIN OVER X’S

Gary SouthShore 10, Sioux City 4 – Box

The Gary SouthShore RailCats won their second game of the year with a 10-4 defeat of the Sioux City Explorers in front of a crowd of 3,011 at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park. The RailCats got off to an early start scoring three runs in the first inning, one run in the second inning, and five runs in the fourth inning to take a 9-1 lead heading into the fifth. Gary SouthShore LF Cameron Newell was 4-for-5 on the afternoon with three runs scored and a walk while RF Tillman Pugh blasted his first home run of the season. Reliever Santiago Rodriguez received the win working 2.1 scoreless innings, striking out three as he allowed just one hit. For Sioux City, DH Derrick Robinson and RF Michael Lang each recorded two hits in the game.

 

Fargo-Moorhead 4, Texas AirHogs 1 – Box

 In front of 5,751 fans at Airhog Stadium, the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks won their third game of the year defeating the Texas AirHogs 4-1. The RedHawks’ offense, ignited by 2B Ryan Pineda who was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two walks, clicked early as they scored three runs in the top of the first inning to take the early lead. Starter Tyler Alexander earned the win throwing seven innings, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out seven and reliever Travis Ballew earned the save hurling a scoreless ninth inning. For Texas, LF Burt Reynolds went 2-for-4 and scored the AirHogs’ lone run of the game in the seventh inning. The AirHogs’ bullpen was excellent in the contest as well as relievers Tyler Ihrig and Richard Suniga shutout the RedHawks for 3.1 innings.
