QUIJANO, GAC TAKE PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS

Gary SouthShore LHP wins twice; Lincoln 1B slugs five homers

DURHAM, NC – The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Gary SouthShore RailCats LHP Alain Quijano (pictured) and Lincoln Saltdogs 1B Ian Gac have been named this week’s Pointstreak Pitcher and Batter of the Week.

Quijano picked up a pair of wins for the RailCats, defeating the Wichita Wingnuts and the Kansas City T-Bones. Between the two outings, the left-hander allowed just one run over 11 innings of work. In his start against Wichita, Quijano held the Wingnuts hitters to five hits in six innings. Next time out, he struck out five T-Bones over five innings.

Gac’s last seven games at the dish were powerful. The Saltdogs first baseman hit five home runs and drove in 15 runs, easily topping all other American Association hitters over that span. Gac also hit for average, going .417 over seven games against Kansas City and Winnipeg. The right-handed hitter from Bellevue, WA had his best games at the very beginning and end of the week. Against the T-Bones on May 20, Gac went 4-for-5 with five RBI and a home run. Yesterday against the Goldeyes, Gac again drove in five runs, but he also hit a pair of home runs and a double.
