Sioux Falls 1, Wichita 0 – Box
After losing the first two games of the three-game series, the Canaries got revenge on Sunday, topping the Wingnuts 1-0. The lone run of the game was scored in the fifth inning when RF Burt Reynolds hit a solo home run. The blast was his eighth of the season and he picked up his 31st RBI on the play. RHP Miles Nordgren was excellent in the win, throwing eight shutout innings while holding the Wingnuts to just seven hits. Nordgren (3-3) also struck out five batters. RHP Jose Ortega earned the three-out save for his tenth save of the year.
Kansas City 13, Winnipeg 2 – Box
The T-Bones made easy work of the Goldeyes on Sunday, avoiding the series sweep by winning 13-2. Before the Goldeyes knew what had hit them the T-Bones scored four runs in the second inning. CF Chantz Mack hit a three-run home run in the inning to put the T-Bones up 4-0. In the sixth, 1B Kevin Keyes hit a two-run homer, his fifteen of the year to extend the lead to 9-0. The Goldeyes were unable to bring the game much closer, scoring two runs in the final three innings but falling 13-2. Keyes had four hits on the day and scored three times. Mack added three RBIs and scored twice. RHP Chris Perry pitched seven strong innings in the win, allowing just two runs on six hits. Perry (2-2) also struck out five batters.
Gary Southshore 9, Salina 4 – Box
The Railcats used a five run third inning to cruise to a series sweep over the Stockade, earning their 32nd win of the year in the process. With the score tied at two in the bottom of the third, C James Alfonso doubled home a run to make it 3-2. Then, CF Chase Harris hit a two-run double with the bases loaded making it a 5-2 game. RF Colin Willis provided the last two runs of the inning, plating two with a single to put the score to 7-2. The teams exchanged two more runs each in the sixth inning to make the score 9-4. Those were the last runs scored as the Railcats went on to win 9-4. RHP Marshall Pautsch threw seven innings in the victory for his first win of the season. He allowed four runs on six hits while striking out two.
Lincoln 5, Cleburne 1 – Box
The Saltdogs extended their winning streak to six games on Sunday, defeating the Railroaders to take the series sweep. Both teams were scoreless until the fifth inning when the Saltdogs scored a run on a fielder’s choice. In the sixth, Nathaniel Maggio blasted a two-run homer to extend the lead to three runs. The Saltdogs added two more runs before the Railroaders got on the board in the ninth. DH Curt Smith collected two hits and drove in a run in the victory. RHP Seth Webster picked up the victory, pitching seven scoreless innings. Webster allowed seven hits while striking out a batter. RHP Michael Wagner earned the save, his eleventh save of the year.
