Sioux City Explorers infielder John Nogowski and Sioux Falls Canaries pitcher Neil Lang won the American Association’s Pointstreak batter and pitcher of the week for the week ending 7/7, the league announced Monday.
Nogowski led the league in hitting this week, going 15-for-26 (.577) at the plate with seven doubles, one homer, seven RBI, six walks and 10 runs scored.
Nogowski has yet to go hit-less in July, currently on an eight-game streak and a five-game streak of game with two hits or more. He drove in three runs with a pair of doubles on Sunday to help wrap up a series win against the Milkmen.
The former major leaguer (St. Louis, Toronto, Pittsburgh, 2020-21) is in year two with Sioux City after playing 34 games a year ago. He’s hitting .333 this year with four homers and 36 RBI.
On the pitching side, Neil Lang picked up a pair of W’s this week for the first-place Canaries, one in a start and one in relief.
Lang started the week in Chicago, pitching seven shutout with five strikeouts in a 6-0 win for Sioux Falls. Then on Sunday, he pitched four innings in relief in the game that was suspended on Saturday night due to rain, pitching four innings allowing one run and striking out three.
The right-hander is in year three with Sioux Falls and has also spent time in all three of the other MLB partner leagues in the Pioneer, Frontier and Atlantic leagues.
Pointstreak is the official statistician of the American Association.
