Kansas City 7, Fargo-Moorhead 5 – Box Score
The Kansas City Monarchs remained undefeated in the postseason and took a 2-0 lead in the American Association Finals with a 7-5 win against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks on Saturday night.
Just as they did in game one, the Monarchs took control in the first inning. On Friday night, the Monarchs plated six runs in the top of the first thanks to two RBI singles from RF Gabriel Guerrero and DH Ibandel Isabel (2-for-5) and additional RBI singles from LF Colin Willis (2-for-3) and C Alexis Olmeda.
Isabel added an RBI single in the second to pus the lead to 7-0.
The RedHawks started to work their way back into the game in the bottom of the second as SS Sam Dexter (3-for-4) hit a two-run home run and 1B Correlle Prime hit a sac fly to score CF Alex Boxwell. In the sixth, RF John Silviano (2-for-3) added a solo homer and 2B Nick Novak (2-for-4) doubled home Dexter to pull within two runs but it would be the final run of the game.
For the Monarchs, SS Morgan McCullough, 2B Ryan Grotjohn and 3B Darnell Sweeney each had a pair of hits.
The American Association Finals now move to Kansas City for game three (and four and five if necessary). Game three is set for Monday, September 20 at 7:00 p.m.
