MILKMEN EXTEND LEAD AT THE TOP OF THE STANDINGS

Milwaukee 10, St. Paul 5 – Box Score

The Milwaukee Milkmen rode a five-run first inning to a 10-5 win against the St. Paul Saints on Thursday night at CHS Field.

CF Brett Vertigan kickstarted the night with a solo home run on the first pitch of the game. LF Adam Brett Walker II scored on an error later in the inning and, after the Milkmen loaded up the bases, RF Zach Nehrir drew a walk and C Christian Correa added a two-RBI single. DH Jose Sermo (2-for-3) and 2B Dylan Tice (2-for-5) added solo homers in the second and fourth, respectively, and the Milkmen hit double digits as SS Mason Davis hit a two-RBI double and scored on a Correa sac fly in the seventh.

For the Saints, 2B Mikey Reynolds went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and 3B Chesny Young added a pair of hits.

The Milkmen now hold a 2.5 game lead on the Sioux Falls Canaries, who also sit 2.5 games ahead of the three-way tie (Winnipeg, Fargo-Moorhead and St. Paul) in third place. The Milkmen have just six games left to play this season.

 

Fargo-Moorhead 8, Sioux Falls 6 – Box Score

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks claimed their third straight series win as they topped the Sioux Falls Canaries 8-6.

The Canaries held a 3-1 lead heading into the bottom of the third but LF Brennan Metzger (2-for-4) scored on an error, 1B Correlle Prime lifted an RBI sac fly and 3B Leobaldo Pina hit a two-run homer to give the RedHawks a 5-3 lead. Metzger added an RBI single in the fourth, and after a CF Logan Landon RBI double for the Canaries in the fifth, Pina homered again and 2B Christian Ibarra scored on an error in the bottom of the frame to extend the lead.

The 8-4 lead held until the top of the ninth when SS Andrew Ely (3-for-4) pulled the Canaries back to within two runs with a two-run homer run but a strikeout in the next at-bat ended the contest.

 

Chicago 14, Winnipeg 11 (Game 1/7 Innings) – Box Score

The Chicago Dogs outlasted the Winnipeg Goldeyes 14-11 in the first game of their doubleheader on Thursday evening at Impact Field.

The two teams combined for 29 hits and 18 different batters reached base in the game. For the Dogs, CF Michael Crouse, DH Edwin Arroyo, 1B K.C. Hobson, C Logan Moore, LF Kelly Dugan and 2B Blake Allemand each recorded two hits in the game and Hobson add five RBIs. SS Tyler Ladendorf and 3B Joey Terdoslavich pitched in three RBIs each as well.

For the Goldeyes, six different batters each had a pair of hits and 3B Darnell Sweeney added four RBIs and three runs scored with a pair of RBIs.

 

Winnipeg 7, Chicago 3 (Game 2/7 Innings) – Box Score

A six-run sixth inning helped the Winnipeg Goldeyes snap their 11-game losing streak as they took game two of their Thursday twin bill with the Chicago Dogs 7-3.

The Dogs were leading 2-1 heading into the top of the sixth when the Winnipeg bats came to life. CF Breland Almadova (2-for-4) hit a lead-off double and scored when 3B Darnell Sweeney doubled on the next pitch. Sweeney scored alongside DH Logan Hill when C John Nester singled. SS Wes Darvill pushed RF Jonathan Moroney across with a fielder’s choice and then he scored when LF Jordan George capped the rally with a two-run home run.

For the Dogs, three different batters each had one hit and SS Blake Allemand had two of the team’s RBIs.
