MILKMEN BEAT DOGS BEHIND THREE-HIT SHUTOUT

Milwaukee 3, Chicago 0 – Box Score

Milwaukee starting pitcher Angel Ventura and two relievers combined on a three-hit shutout as the Milkmen downed Chicago, 3-0.

Ventura went the first seven innings of the contest allowing a walk and the three hits while striking out two batters. The righty threw 67 pitches, 47 strikes, and faced 23 batters. The bullpen duo of Zach Hartman and Jake Joyce finished the final two innings and combined gave up only a walk and struck out three batters. Ventura earned his fifth win of season and Joyce notched his first save.

Offensively for Milwaukee, DH Jose Rosario led the way going 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Milkmen C Manuel Boscan picked-up two hits in three at-bats along with an RBI while 1B Dan Ward plated a run in a 1-for-4 night.

 

Winnipeg 5, Texas 4 – Box Score

Winnipeg has now won four straight as they edged past Texas by the score of 5-4. The Goldeyes scored three runs in the seventh inning to take a 5-2 lead and would have to hold off a late AirHogs rally to take home the victory.

Third baseman Dominic Ficociello led the way offensively for Winnipeg going 1-for-2 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. Goldeyes CF Reggie Abercrombie drove in a run in a 2-for-3 night while leadoff hitter Tyler Hill had a pair of hits in four at-bats along with a run and an RBI.

Winnipeg pitcher Joel Bender tossed 1 1/3 innings of relief and picked-up his first win of the season. The southpaw allowed three earned runs on six hits with a strikeout.

For Texas in the loss, 2B Luo Jinjun had a 2-for-4 night with a run and two RBIs. The AirHogs left 12 runners on base in the contest.

 

Fargo-Moorhead 5, Lincoln 4 – Box Score

Fargo-Moorhead jumped out to a 5-0 lead after 4 ½ innings of play and would go from there to down Lincoln by a 5-4 score. With the win and the St. Paul loss, the RedHawks and Saints are now tied for the lead in the North Division.

There were 10 hits collected by Fargo-Moorhead with three batters picking-up at least two. RedHawks DH Chris Jacobs went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and an RBI while 3B Leobaldo Pina added three hits in four at-bats along with a pair of RBIs. Shortstop Yhoxian Medina also helped the Fargo-Moorhead offense by launching a solo home run, his third of the season.

RedHawks pitcher Michael Hope threw 1 2/3 innings of relief and collected the victory. The righty gave up an earned run on a hit and struck out one in a 22-pitch performance. With the win, Hope is now 3-0 on the season.

 

Cleburne 4, St. Paul 2 – Box Score

In a battle of division leaders, it was Cleburne who came out on top as they beat St. Paul by a 4-2 final.

The Railroaders jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning as two runs came across on an error by Saints 1B John Silviano. Cleburne added two more in the third on a two-run home run by Zach Nehrir, his eighth of the year. St. Paul would cut the lead in half in the seventh thanks to a two-run shot by CF Dan Motl. That is as close as the Saints would get as they left two runners on base in the bottom of the ninth to end the contest.

Nehrir had a 2-for-4 night with a run scored and two RBIs while SS Daniel Robertson and C John Nester each collected two hits and plated a run.

Railroaders starter Charlie Gillies threw six shutout innings and notched his fourth win of the 2019 season. Gillies allowed two walks and seven hits to go along with four strikeouts.

 

Kansas City 4, Sioux Falls 0 – Box Score

Kansas City starting pitcher Jose Mesa Jr. and two relievers combined on a four-hit shutout as the T-Bones defeated Sioux Falls, 4-0.

Mesa, Jr. was terrific tonight as he tossed six strong innings allowing only two walks and three hits while fanning 13 Canary batters. The 25-year-old threw 68 strikes in his 104-pitch outing and faced 23 hitters.  The relievers, Brian Ellington and Carlos Diaz, finished off the final three innings of the contest and combined allowed only a hit and two walks while fanning four batters. Mesa Jr. earned the victory and is now 1-0 on the year.

Offensively for Kansas City, LF Casey Gillaspie had a big-time performance going 3-for-4 with two home runs, three runs scored and three RBI. Third baseman Mason Davis also had a three-hit night for the T-Bones.

 

Sioux City 8, Gary SouthShore 3 – Box Score

Sioux City notched their sixth consecutive win tonight as they downed Gary SouthShore, 8-3. The Explorers rolled out to a 6-1 lead after just an inning of action and would cruise from there to the big victory.

There were eight batters that picked-up at least one hit for Sioux City including LF Sebastian Zawada who went 2-for-4 with a first-inning grand slam. Explorers 2B Drew Stankiewicz scored two runs and drove in one in a 1-for-3 night while CF Kyle Wren added three hits in five at-bats and scored a run. In total, Sioux City had 12 hits in the contest.

Explorers starting Carlos Sierra gave up three earned runs over six innings of work and grabbed his fifth win of the season. Sierra (5-0) gave up three walks and five hits and fanned six RailCat batters.

For Gary SouthShore in the loss, LF John Price Jr. had a solid night going 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs.
