MENDONCA’S 11TH INNING SINGLE GIVES EXPLORERS WALK-OFF WIN

Sioux City 4, Joplin 3 – 11 Innings — Box Score

Thanks to 3B Tommy Mendonca’s single with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning, the Sioux City Explorers walked off on the Joplin Blasters 4-3 for an extra-innings win.

With the game tied at 3-3, C Matt Koch drew a lead-off walk in the bottom of the 11th inning. Koch moved to second as LF Derrick Robinson grounded out to third base and then took third on a wild pitch during Mendonca’s at-bat and then scored the game-winning run when Mendonca connected on his only hit of the game.

SS Nate Samson and RF Michael Lang both had a pair of hits for the Explorers on the night. For the Blasters, 1B Geraldo Valentin went 3-for-5 with two RBI and 2B Mitch Glasser went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.

 

Texas 4, Wichita 3 — Box Score 

Texas AirHogs’ CF Michael Hur came up with a one-out single in the bottom of the ninth to score 3B Cory Morales and walk off on the Wichita Wingnuts 4-3.

Hur’s single broke a 3-3 tie that was created in the bottom of the sixth inning after DH Leon Byrd lifted a sacrifice fly to score 1B Devon Rodriquez and, in the next at-bat, RF Cody Lenahan blasted a solo home run. Lenahan went 3-for-4 in the game to lead all batters while Hur and C Michael Valadez each added a pair of hits.

For the Wingnuts, both 2B Christian Stringer and 1B Matt Chavez went had two hits and an RBI in the game and C Brent Dean also tallied an RBI.

 

 Sioux Falls 2, Fargo-Moorhead 1 — Box Score

The Sioux Falls Canaries walked off on the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 2-1 as 3B Ozney Guillen singled in the bottom of the ninth and then scored the game-winning win as RF Aaron Owen reached on an error.

The game was tied at one thanks to 3B Josh Mazzol a’s RBI ground out in the first inning and 2B Darwin Perez’ single in the bottom of the eighth that allowed C Michael Falsetti to score. Both teams had seven hits in the contest and three of those came off the bat of RedHawk 2B Ryan Pineda.

On the bump, reliever Madison Boer earned the win for working the ninth inning. Fargo-Moorhead starter Tyler Alexander had a strong showing in the no decision as he went eight innings and allowed one run on six hits while striking out 11 batters.

 

Lincoln 3, Kansas City 2 — Box Score

The Lincoln Saltdogs edged past the Kansas City T-Bones 3-2 thanks to the offensive efforts of 1B Luis Alen.

Alen plated the Saltdogs first two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning with a single that score both CF Robby Kuzdale and 3B Connor Teykl. After Kansas City’s DH Tyson Gillies tied the score with a two-run home run in the top of the sixth, Alen broke that tie with a solo shot of his own and that proved to be the game-winning run. Alen finished the day 3-for-4 with three RBI.

Just three other Saltdogs had hits in the game including Kuzdale and 2B Tyler Urps, who each went 2-for-4. For the T-Bones, RF Dalton Wheat went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

 

St. Paul 3, Winnipeg 0 – Suspended/Rain

The game between the St. Paul Saints and the Winnipeg Goldeyes was suspended in the bottom of the second inning with the Saints leading 3-0. The game will be completed at 5:30 on August 15 and a seven-inning game will follow.
