Sioux City 14, Grand Prairie 3– Box
It was an offensive explosion for the Explorers at Lewis and Clark Park on Sunday afternoon. Three players collected four hits each, and the Explorers scored two or more runs in four separate innings.
3B Tom Mendonca (pictured) was 4-for-4 with two runs scored and six RBIs. He hit a two-RBI double in the bottom of the third inning a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth. CF Oscar Mesa was 4-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs. SS Nate Samson was also 4-for-5, collecting a pair of RBIs on an RBI single and an RBI groundout.
For Grand Prairie, SS Jimmy Mojica picked up his third triple of the season.
RHP Greg Holt earned the win for Sioux City, as he allowed only four hits over eight innings.
Sioux Falls 4, Fargo-Moorhead 0 (Doubleheader Game Two- 7 innings)– Box
The Canaries completed a sweep of the RedHawks behind strong pitching from RHP Ben Moore. Moore hurled a seven-inning complete game shutout in which he struck out seven and allowed five hits while only walking two. Moore lowered his ERA to 3.12 with the win, his third of the season.
Offensively, 3B Carlos Mendez hit an RBI double in the bottom of the second to put the Canaries on the board. The next inning, LF Brandon Jones hit a solo home run. In the fourth, SS Stephen Branca hit an RBI single and C Kevin Dultz hit a sacrifice fly. Branca was 2-for-2 with a walk in the game.
For Fargo, CF Nic Jackson was 2-for-3.
Amarillo 4, Wichita 3– Box
The host Sox scored three runs in the bottom of the third en route to a win over the visiting Wingnuts on Sunday night.
CF Jason Martin opened the scoring with an RBI groundout, and was immediately followed by an RBI triple from 1B Keith Brachold and an RBI single by 2B Omar Luna. Amarillo added an insurance run when RF Cory Patton hit a solo home run in the sixth inning.
Luna finished 2-for-4 for the Sox, the only Amarillo player with multiple hits. For Wichita, SS Ryan Khoury was 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. LF Carlo Testa was 2-for-5 with an RBI.
RHP Matt Larkins earned the win for Amarillo, striking out seven over six and 1/3 innings of work. The save went to RHP Erik Draxton, who struck out a batter in the ninth to pick up save No. 3 of the season.
Kansas City 11, Laredo 4– Box
A seven-run top of the second inning propelled the visiting T-Bones to a road win in the series finale in Laredo. Kansas City also plated a pair of runs in the third and the seventh en route to the win.
2B Danny Richar was 3-for-5 with a home run, four RBIs and a run scored for the T-Bones. 1B Nick Schwaner was 2-for-3, scoring two runs. SS Vladimir Frias also checked in to the multi-hit club, going 2-for-6, including a two-RBI double in the second inning.
CF Nick Van Stratten went 3-for-5 for Laredo.
RHP Kyle DeVore earned the win in relief for Kansas City, logging three and 2/3 innings and striking out five while not allowing a run.
