LEMURS WALK OFF ON WINGNUTS IN 11 INNINGS

Laredo 5, Wichita 4 – 11 inningsBox Score

The Laredo Lemurs walked off on the Wichita Wingnuts 5-4 when 2B Jeudy Valdez singled home DH Dvontrey Richardson in the bottom of the 11th inning.

The Lemurs rallied from a 4-1 deficit after five innings to tie the score at four. Laredo jumpstarted their rally with solo home runs by 3B Juan Silverio and RF Denis Phipps in the sixth inning. They completed the comeback in the eighth when 1B Dustin Geiger drew a bases-loaded walk. In the 11th, Richardson started on second base due to the extra-innings rule and advanced to third when Geiger grounded out. Valdez singled to left field to plate Richardson and end the game.

For the night, Phipps and LF Kevin Taylor each had two hits and Phipps had a pair of RBI. For the Wingnuts, DH Andy LaRoche and 1B Matt Padgett each had one RBI.

 

Fargo-Moorhead 5, Winnipeg 3  — Box Score

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks built a four-run lead held off a ninth-inning rally to take care of the Winnipeg Goldeyes 5-3.

RedHawks starting pitcher Tyler Alexander went the distance on the mound and allowed three runs (all earned) on seven hits. Alexander struck out 11 batters and issued just one walk. At the plate, the RedHawks backed up Alexander with five RBI from four different batters. CF Drew Muren had a pair of RBI with a seventh-inning double and 1B Joe Bonfe, 3B Michael Wing and 2B Ryan Pineda each had an RBI and two hits.

For the Goldeyes, LF Adam Heisler went 2-for-5 and DH Casey Haerther, RF Tillman Pugh and C Ryan Babineau each had one RBI. Pugh and Babineau each had RBI with one out in the ninth but the rally stopped there.

 

 

Gary SouthShore 2, Sioux Falls 1 Box Score

The Gary SouthShore RailCats posted a pair of runs in the first inning and made them stand up as they edged the Sioux Falls Canaries 2-1.

In the top of the first inning, 3B J.D. Pulfer drew a leadoff walk and scored when CF Jon Jones singled later in the inning. Jones scored what was ultimately the game-winning run when 1B Jose Sermo doubled two batters later. For the Canaries, 1B David Bergin hit a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the second inning but that would be Sioux Falls’ only run of the game.

On the mound, starting pitcher Fernando Gonzalez earned the win for working five innings and allowing one run on six hits. Reliever Andy Roberts recorded a 12-out save without allowing a run and giving up just two hits. Bother Gonzalez and Roberts each had three strikeouts.

 

St. Paul 3, Joplin 2  — Box Score

The St. Paul Saints broke a 2-2 tie with a run by LF Joey Paciorek in the top of the eighth and held on to slide past the Joplin Blasters 3-2.

The Saints struck first as 1B Angelo Songco singled to score RF Willie Argo in the top of the first inning. The Blasters tied the score with a solo home run by CF Oscar Mesa and that score line held until the seventh. There, CF Alonzo Harris gave the Saints the lead with a solo home run but RF Jesus Solorzano matched that with a solo home run of his own in the bottom of the frame.

In the eighth, Paciorek singled with one out and moved to second when 3B Steve Nikorak drew a walk After SS Anthony Phillips struck out 2B Dan Kaczrowski singled and Paciorek scored on the play to give the Saints the 3-2 lead.

 

Amarillo 10, Grand Prairie 6  — Box Score

The Amarillo Thunderheads handled the Grand Prairie AirHogs 10-6 despite being out hit 12-11.

Eight different Thunderheads registered at least one hit in the game and the one batter that didn’t, RF Logan Vick, tallied an RBI. Four Thunderheads had multi-hit games including 2B Geraldo Valentin who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a pair of runs scored. CF Dexter Kjerstad, SS Juan Martinez and C Corey Bass each also had two hits on the night. For the AirHogs, RF Josh Eatherly had a game-high three hits and both CF Jordy Hart and 2B Jamodrick McGruder each had two hits.

Reliever Tyler Pearson earned the win for working 3.1 innings and allowing three runs (two hits) on three hits.

 

Sioux City 9, Kansas City 3  — Box Score

The Sioux City Explorers racked up nine runs in the first four innings and that proved to be enough as they beat the Kansas City T-Bones 9-3.

The Explorers got things started right away as DH Brock Kjeldaard hit a two-run home run and SS Noah Perio followed with a solo shot in the next at bat. 2B Ryan Court followed with a single and then scored when 3B Tommy Mendonca doubled. Mendonca scored on a double by C Matt Koch. Kjeldgaard, who was a perfect 5-for-5 on the night, added another pair of RBI in the second with a single that plated a pair of runs. LF Tim Colwell hit an RBI double in the third and Mendonca doubled to score Kjeldgaard in the fourth.

The T-Bones rallied late as RF Jacob Hayes tripled home a pair of runs in the seventh and CF Robby Kuzdale scored on an error in the eighth but that would be Kansas City’s last run.

 

Rockland 5, Lincoln 2  — Box Score

The Rockland Boulders jumped out to an early lead with the help of a three-run home run from DH Marcus Nidiffer and held on to drop the Lincoln Saltdogs 5-2.

After Nidiffer’s blast gave the Boulders a 3-0 lead, 1B Charlie Law doubled and then later scored on an error. In the fifth, Rockland extended their lead as SS Junior Arrojo scored when C Joe Maloney bounced out to the second baseman. The Saltdogs rallied in the seventh as 1B Jeremy Hamilton and RF Brian Joynt hit RBI singles but Reliever Austin Kirk struck out the next two batters and forced the next to ground out to first to halt the rally.

For the Boulders, Arrojo and LF Stephen Cardullo each had a pair of hits and for the Saltdogs, CF Matt Forgatch had a game-high three hits.
