LEMURS’ CARROLL HEADED TO D-BACKS

Sawyer Carroll D Backs

DURHAM, NC – The Laredo Lemurs had to say goodbye to their greatest gap-to-gap power threat yesterday, as Sawyer Carroll (pictured) departed for Mobile, AL. Carroll, who led the Lemurs with 21 doubles and was tied for the team lead in RBI with 41, had his contract purchased by the Arizona Diamondbacks and was shipped to the Double-A Mobile BayBears.

Carroll leaves the Lemurs after just 59 games in the American Association, but his play in that stretch was good enough to vault Laredo into first place in the South Division. In addition to his RBI and doubles totals, Carroll hit for a .311 average and delivered four home runs. He also sat among the team’s best in runs (43) and stolen bases (7).

When Carroll makes his first appearance for Mobile, it will mark his second stint in Double-A. The University of Kentucky product spent parts of three seasons with the San Diego Padres’ Double-A affiliate from 2009 to 2011. The Padres drafted Carroll out of Kentucky in the third round of the 2008 MLB June Amateur Draft. Carroll played in San Diego’s farm system until earlier this season, playing in Triple-A last year and at the beginning of this season before joining the Lemurs.
