MOORHEAD, MN- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Chicago Dogs’ LHP Luke Westphal has been named this week’s Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week ending June 9, 2019.
Westphal earned the award after going 2-0 with just one run allowed, and 13 strikeouts in 11 innings pitched last week. The lefties one run allowed was the first of the 2019 season, ending his scoreless inning streak to start the season at 28.2 innings. Westphal now sits 4-0 with a 0.31 ERA in 28.2 innings of work. He is currently tied for the league lead in wins, has the lowest ERA in the league, and leads the league in strikeouts (36).
Westphal began his professional career with the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League in 2013 after going undrafted out of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. The 29-year-old spent two seasons with the Grizzlies before joining the Minnesota Twins’ organization in 2015. Westphal spent two seasons in the Twins’ organization, reaching double-A in 2016. Westphal spent the past two seasons with two different teams in the Atlantic League before signing with Chicago over the offseason.
