MOORHEAD, MN- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Sioux Falls Canaries’ LHP Cesilio Pimentel (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending July 8.
Pimentel (3-1) earned the award after tossing eight shutout innings in 1-0 win over the Gary SouthShore Railcats on July 6. In the eight inning performance, the league’s ERA leader (1.36) dazzled, striking out seven while walking just one and scattering four hits.
Pimentel began his professional career in 2011 after signing with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization as a free agent out of the Dominican Republic. The Righty spent five seasons in the Pirates organization , reaching single-A in 2016, before making a pit stop in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization and ending the season in the American Association. In 2017, Pimentel split time between the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and the Lincoln Saltdogs, compiling a 6-3 record with a 3.57 ERA.
