Laredo 14, Grand Prairie 2 – Box
The Laredo offense exploded yet again tonight against the Grand Prairie AirHogs, leading the Lemurs to a 14-2 victory. The team totaled 19 hits during the game, while Laredo held Grand Prairie to just six. Six Laredo batters had multi-hit nights with RF Harrison Kain going 4-5, LF J.P. Ramirez going a perfect 5-5 and C Angel Flores going 3-5. Eight of Laredo’s hits were of the extra base variety.
Laredo starter Tyler Pearson grabbed the win after throwing six shutout innings and six strikeouts.
Winnipeg 3, Lincoln 2 – Box
The Winnipeg Goldeyes and the Lincoln Saltdogs played a close game Friday, but after scoring a single run in the seventh inning, Winnipeg was able to come out with a 3-2 victory.
SS Tyler Kuhn led the way for Winnipeg out of the leadoff spot, going 2-4 and scoring a run. C Luis Allen went 1-3 batting ninth, but his lone hit proved to be decisive, as his single in the seventh drove in DH Ryan Pineda to take a 3-2 that would stay intact.
Starting pitcher Matthew Jackson went 6.2 innings for the Goldeyes en route to picking up the win. He struck out three and walked three while allowing six hits and two runs. Brendan Lafferty and Chris Kissock combined to throw the remaining 2.1 innings and secure the win for Winnipeg, with Kissock picking up the save.
Sioux Falls 3, St. Paul 1 – Box
The Sioux Falls Canaries took advantage of a great effort by their pitching staff to beat the St. Paul Saints 3-1.
Kyle Ruwe got the start for Sioux Falls and gave the Canaries six solid innings. Ruwe worked around nine hits and a walk to limit the Saints to just one run, while striking out two. After Ruwe came out of the game, Josh Giles threw two shutout innings and racked up four strikeouts and Alan DeRatt threw a perfect ninth to close the game.
3B Carlos Mendez was the top offensive performer for Sioux Falls and went 3-5 out of the two-hole with a pair of RBIs.
Kansas City 5, Fargo-Moorhead 4 – Box
The Kansas City T-Bones used a four-run fourth inning to help propel themselves over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 5-4. Heading into the ninth, the T-Bones were holding a 5-2 before the RedHawks put two on the board and looked to be close to a comeback. But Kris Regas managed to settle down after letting in the two runs and complete the two-inning save.
Rick Zagone started the game for Kansas City and nabbed the win after a seven inning, three-hit performance. Leadoff man and leftfielder Byron Wiley went 1-5 with a three-run homer in the fourth–it was his second of the season.
Amarillo 5, Sioux City 1 – Box
The Amarillo pitching staff combined to hold the Sioux City Explorers to just a single run, while the Sox hitters backed them up and scored five runs to grab a 5-1 win.
Michael Nannini got the start for Amarillo and tossed five innings and let up one run before handing the ball off to the bullpen. Casey Beck threw one shutout inning, Celson Polanco threw two of his own and Erik Draxton finished it off with a no-hit ninth inning.
CF Jason Martin hit his first home run of the season tonight out of the leadoff spot and went 2-5. Hitting second, 2B Josh Miller went 2-4 with two RBIs and a walk.
Wichita 6, Gary SouthShore 5 (14 innings) – Box
The Wichita Wingnuts and the Gary SouthShore RailCats took the field for much longer than they anticipated Friday night, with the game dragging on well into the night and for 14 full innings. The Wingnuts got out on the better end of the marathon after it was also said and done, winning 6-5 thanks to an Adam Taylor (DH) walk-off in the bottom of the 14th that plated pinch runner Morgan Coombs.
Wichita reliever Coleman Stephens wound up with the win for the Wingnuts after getting two strikeouts in the top of the 14th and letting up just one hit.
