St. Paul 10, Fargo-Moorhead 9 (10 Innings) – Box
The St. Paul Saints scored in the 10th inning to beat the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 10-9 in extras. The Saints did most of their work off of seven runs in the third inning, and they held a 9-1 advantage after five. DH Mike Kvasnicka hit a three-run homer in that big inning. However, Fargo-Moorhead would fight back. The RedHawks scored five in the sixth inning and tied the game by the eighth. 3B Frazier Hall hit a two-run home run for Fargo-Moorhead in the sixth.
With the game headed to extras, Kvasnicka came up big again for St. Paul with a solo home run to break the tie. He finished the game 4-for-5 with three runs and five RBIs.
Sioux City 9, Amarillo 2 – Box
The Sioux City Explorers scored four runs in the first inning and eight in the first four innings to easily beat the Amarillo Thunderheads 9-2. The Explorers started the scoring with an RBI single from 1B Brock Kjeldgaard. One batter later, SS Noah Perio took one out of the park for three runs. Kjeldgaard added a solo home run later in the game. Both of Amarillo’s runs came from a RF Logan Vick home run in the sixth inning.
On the mound, Sioux City’s Ryan Zimmerman snagged the win. He clearly deserved it after pitching eight innings, striking out 10 and allowing just two runs. Jose Flores worked a perfect ninth for the Explorers.
Kansas City 8, Trois-Rivieres 2 – Box
The Kansas City T-Bones used a three-run home run at the beginning of the game and another at the end to beat the Trois-Rivieres Aigles 8-2. In just the fourth at-bat of the game, RF Adam Bailey put the T-Bones ahead with his three-run shot. After a couple more runs were added, Kansas City got another three-run shot from DH Joe Rapp in the ninth inning. That offense, plus four scoreless innings by two relievers – Josh Tols and Fernando Hernandez – led the T-Bones to victory.
Though the Aigles lost, CF Steve Brown was a big bright spot. He hit an RBI single in the first inning and followed that up with a solo homer in the fourth. Brown finished the game 3-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.
Lincoln at Gary SouthShore – Postponed
The game between the Saltdogs and RailCats was postponed. The game has not been rescheduled yet.
Winnipeg 5, Sioux Falls 4 – Box
A fantastic night at the plate from LF Jon Weber helped the Winnipeg Goldeyes hold on to beat the Sioux Falls Canaries 5-4. Weber went 4-for-5 with two RBIs. The Goldeyes scored three runs in the fifth inning, including a Weber RBI that put them up for good. Although Sioux Falls lost, they had a couple big plays at the plate. DH David Bergin and C Richard Stock each hit solo home runs.
The winning pitcher, Nick Hernandez of Winnipeg, had a quality start. Hernandez pitched 6.2 innings with three earned runs, and he added six strikeouts. The other starting pitcher, Joe Bircher of Sioux Falls, lost but had a quality start too. Jailen Peguero recorded a five-out save, which included three strikeouts.
Joplin 6, Wichita 3 – Box
The Joplin Blasters overcame a 3-1 deficit and scored five unanswered runs in the final three innings to top the Wichita Wingnuts 6-3. In the seventh inning, Oscar Mesa tripled to score a run, and he was later brought home by a putout. In the eighth, Joplin got another RBI triple, this time from Steven Tinoco, and he was also brought home by a putout. Mesa scored off a wild pitch in the ninth for the cherry on top.
The Wingnuts scored all three of their runs in the sixth inning and briefly held a 3-1 advantage. Joash Brodin singled to bring in a run, and Dustin Geiger had a two-RBI double. On the mound, Wichita’s T Brown surrendered 11 hits in his 6.2 innings, but he only allowed three earned runs, giving him a quality start.
Grand Prairie 5, Laredo 3 – Box
The Grand Prairie AirHogs scored all five of their runs in the second inning, but that would all they needed to beat the Laredo Lemurs 5-3. The AirHogs scored off three RBI singles from Josh Eatherly, Jamodrick McGruder and Ronnie Richardson, a bases loaded walk and a sacrifice fly.
Laredo could only muster four hits in the game, though they had multi-hit showings from RF Kevin Taylor and CF Denis Phipps. The lack of hits came partly from a great pitching effort from Grand Prairie. Starter Stetson Nelson went the first five innings and allowed just one earned run. Logan Norris would go two innings, and then TyRelle Harris and Zachary Dando each got an inning of work, and none of the relievers allowed an earned run.
