Kansas City 6, Texas 2 – Box
The T-Bones utilized a two-run first inning en route to winning their third game in a row on Friday night. In the first, 1B Kevin Keyes hit the first of his two home runs, as he blasted a two-run shot into the stands. In the fifth, Keyes hit a solo shot, his 18th long ball of the season, to put his team up 4-1. CF Cedric Hunter also homered in the four-run victory, picking up his first home run of the season. Keyes collected three hits, scored twice and knocked in three runs in the win. RHP Scott Carroll earned the victory to pick up his sixth win of the year. He allowed two runs on six hits in seven innings and struck out nine batters.
Salina 4, Gary Southshore 1 – Box
The Stockade utilized an outstanding pitching performance from RHP Matt Hodges to pace them to victory against the Railcats 4-1 on Friday night. Hodges pitched eight one-run innings, as he allowed four hits, walked four batters and struck out five. RF Jimmy Heck produced a big play at the plate, collecting three hits and scoring once in the win. 2B Scott Stetson came in as a pinch-hitter and played a big role, collecting a hit and knocking in a run. RHP Tyler Herr earned his fourth save of the season, as he struck out three batters in the ninth inning.
Wichita 10, Cleburne 3 – Box
The Wingnuts raced to a 2-0 lead in the first inning before exploding for six runs in the fourth en route to a seven-run win. 3B Tj Mittelstaedt knocked in one of two runs in the first with a RBI triple. In the fourth, 2B Christian Stringer produced the big hit with a two-run home run to stretch the lead to eight runs. 1B Matt Chavez also homered in the win, blasting his 15th long ball and collecting two hits. RF Derrick Pyles and LF Nick Van Stratten homered in the loss. RHP Eddie Medina was the beneficiary of outstanding offensive support, going seven innings in the win. Medina (7-3) allowed three runs on six hits and struck out six batters.
Sioux City 9, St Paul 8 – Box
Despite a late surge by the Saints that included two runs scored in the final two innings, the Explorers held off the Saints for a one-run victory. Eight different players knocked in runs for the Explorers in the victory, including RF Michael Lang whose solo home run in the sixth gave the Explorers a 9-6 lead. CF Tony Campana also knocked in a run in the victory and collected three hits on the night. SS Jon Kristoffersen hit a two-run home run in the loss. RHP Chris Powell pitched five innings and allowed six runs (three earned). Powell struck out two batters to earn his first win of the season.
Lincoln 8, Sioux Falls 4 – Box
The Saltdogs won their series opener 8-4 on Friday night over the Canaries, in the process earning their 40th win of the season. The Canaries quickly took a 3-0 lead in the first before the Saltdogs countered with runs in the second and fourth inning to cut the deficit to one. Trailing 4-3 in the eighth, the Saltdogs exploded for four runs to take a 7-4 lead en route to the win. The big play of the inning was a two-run double from 1B Nathaniel Maggio. Maggio finished with two hits and two RBIs in the win. RHP Shairon Martis earned the win as he pitched 1.2 scoreless innings and struck out two batters.
Fargo-Moorhead 2, Winnipeg 1 – Box
The Redhawks came from behind to win the series opener on Friday night against the Goldeyes, as they earned their 35th win of the year. A RBI single from LF Josh Romanski put the Goldeyes up 1-0 in the first. In the fifth, C Charlie Valerio clobbered a single to tie the game at one. In the eighth, Valerio collected his second hit and second RBI as he blasted a double that scored RF K.D. Kang. Kang finished 1-3 with a run scored in the win. LHP Tyler Alexander pitched seven innings of one-run ball, as he allowed five hits and struck out four batters to earn his third win of 2017. RHP Richie Tate earned the six-out save. It was his third save of the year.
