Durham, N.C. – The Toronto Blue Jays have purchased of the contract of Winnipeg Goldeyes DH/OF Ryan Scoma, the American Association announced on Monday.
Scoma had a superb campaign in his first season for the Goldeyes in 2013, hitting .341, third-best in the league, to go along with 19 doubles, four home runs and 46 RBI.
The native of Redwood City, Calif., joined Winnipeg after spending the 2012 campaign with Rockland of the Can-Am League. There, he was second in the circuit with 120 hits, registering a .310 average along with 59 RBI and 13 home runs.
Previously, Scoma played three seasons in the San Francisco Giants’ organization, reaching as high as Single-A. A 36th-round pick of the Giants in the 2009 draft, he played collegiately at California-Davis.
