July 9 Afternoon

Box Score

Kansas City 8, St. Paul 5

The T-Bones rode a six-run fourth inning to a road victory over St. Paul on Tuesday afternoon. Kansas City entered the inning only leading by one, but scored six two-out runs, leading to an 8-5 win.

Joey Gathright (pictured) set the tone for the inning when he came up to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs. The T-Bones centerfielder singled home a pair of runs and Kennard Jones followed with an RBI single to further expand on the lead. After a wild pitch and a walk helped to load the bases again, this week’s Pointstreak Hitter of the Week, Matt Padgett, worked a walk to drive in the fourth run of the frame. Kyle Nichols capped the scoring with a two-run single, as Kansas City left the fourth with a 7-0 lead.

St. Paul slowly chipped at the deficit, but never overcame the T-Bones’ big inning. Jose Hernandez and Dwight Childs made up for two of Kansas City’s runs in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double and an RBI ground out, respectively. Willie Cabrera and Adam Frost also provided RBI doubles and Dan Kaczrowski contributed an RBI single, but St. Paul’s offense ran out of steam by the end of the eighth inning.

Devin Goodwin, Jairo Perez and Jones led the T-Bones’ offense. Goodwin put the game’s first run on the board in the third inning with his eighth home run of the season. Jones and Perez each delivered multi-hit games. Jones drove finished the afternoon at 2-for-5 with two RBI. Perez did not drive in any runs, but scored one and went 3-for-4 at the plate.
