Grand Prairie 10, Amarillo 5
The Grand Prairie AirHogs had no problem scoring runs in their 10-5 victory over the Amarillo Sox.
DH Palmer Karr took that statement to another level as he left the park multiple times on the night, going 2-5 with two home runs to help his team double up the Sox. He drove in three runs and scored twice.
3B Brandon Pinckney also found success at the plate with a 2-5 night out of the three hole that included a run scored and two driven in.
Josh Strawn started the game for Grand Prairie and did a solid job on the hill. He threw six innings and limited the Amarillo Sox to three runs while working around nine hits and three walks. Boomer Potts and Patrick Mincey both came on later in the game and threw one inning of shutout relief to help preserve the win.
Gary SouthShore 9, Sioux City 3
The Sioux City Explorers would get on the board first in the second inning but Gary SouthShore immediately rallied back to put up three runs in the top of the next frame. They eventually went on to top the Explorers 9-3.
DH Christian Vitters paced the RailCats offensively, with three hits including his third triple of the season. He ended the night 3-5 with two runs and an RBI. RF Cristian Guerrero wasn’t too far behind with a 2-4 night that featured a double, two RBI’s, and a run.
James Adkins would pick up the win for the Gary SouthShore after 5.2 innings of work on the hill. He allowed just three runs on nine hits while striking out one batter and walking none.
Trois-Rivieres 11, Sioux Falls 4
The Trois-Rivieres Aigles were in control from the start in an interleague match-up with the Sioux Falls Canaries and would end up winning 11-4.
Leadoff hitter and center fielder Steve Brown started the game off with a double and would come around to score as well as DH Drew Miller and 3B Cam Kneeland. After putting up three runs in the first frame, the Aigles scored once in the second, six times in the sixth, and once more in the fifth to put the game out of reach for Sioux Falls.
Brown went 3-5 with three runs and one RBI on the night while Kneeland went 2-5 with two runs and one RBI. Miller only got one hit in his four plate at bats but managed to add a walk and two runs as well.
Starting pitcher Alexander Burkard pitched an excellent game en route to his seventh win of the season, and his sixth in a row. He threw eight full innings and gave up just two runs on eight hits. He struck out five batters and walked just one while throwing just 97 pitches on the night.
Lincoln 7, Winnipeg 6
The Lincoln Saltdogs came out on top in close game with the Winnipeg Goldeyes, winning 7-6. The Goldeyes would rally in the bottom of the ninth, down two, but only managed to score one to come just shy of Lincoln.
1B Ian Gac and 3B Curt Smith did most of the damage for the Saltdogs at the plate. Gac went 1-2 with two walks and four RBI’s including a three run home run while Smith had a 3-5 night with one run and one RBI.
Pete Parise grabbed the win for Lincoln despite allowing ten hits and five runs in his six innings of work. He also struck out walked three batters.
Wichita 11, El Paso 9
In a tight between the Wichita Wingnuts and the El Paso Diablos, the Wingnuts held on to a close lead and strong late-game push by the Diablos to win 11-9.
After Wichita took a 5-0 lead in the top of the third inning, the Diablos played catch up the rest of the way scoring three times in the bottom of the third, once in the fifth, twice in the sixth, and three more in the eighth inning. The Wichita offense was just too much to overcome.
The Wingnuts had great performances from their 2, 3, and 4 hitters. DH John Rodriguez had a four hit game in six at bats and 1B CJ Ziegler tallied three hits of his own in five at bats. Two-hole hitter and second baseman Jake Kahaulelio went 2-6 with a home run while scoring four times and driving in two runs.
