Kansas City 7, Wichita 6 – 14 Innings — Box Score
Patrick Brady finished off a crazy night in Kansas City with a walk-off single to give the T-Bones a 7-6, 14-inning win against the Wichita Wingnuts.
The Winguts were trailing 5-3 heading into the ninth inning but back-to-back singles from Matt Chavez and Brennan Delgado tied the score at 5-5. The T-Bones loaded up the bases with no outs in the bottom of the ninth but a pair of fielder’s choices and a pop out ended the threat. Wichita pulled in front in the top of the 11th when T.J. Mittelstaedt hit a solo home run but the T-Bones answered with a sac fly from Omar Garcia that scored Brady in the bottom half of the inning.
In the 14th, Brady came up with the bases loaded and connected on a 1-1 pitch to finish off the game. He was 2-for-3 in the game. Kevin Keyes had a team-high three hits and three runs scored, including the game-winner.
Lincoln 7, Sioux Falls 6 – 12 Innings — Box Score
Pinch hitter Brent Dean stepped to the plate with the bases-loaded in the bottom of the 12th inning and delivered a walk-off single to give the Lincoln Saltdogs a 7-6 win against the Sioux Falls Canaries.
The Saltdogs were trailing 6-3 heading into the bottom of the ninth but 2B Cesar Valera singled home SS Ivan Marin with two outs and 1B Curt Smith followed with a two-RBI single in the next at-bat to tie the game and force extras. Four different Saltdogs had two-hit games; Valera, LF Brandon Jacobs, DH Tommy Mendonca and C Dashenko Ricardo. Valera and Smith each had a pair of RBI.
For the Canaries, five different batters had two hits including LF Ty Morrison who went 2-for-6 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Gary SouthShore 4, Fargo-Moorhead 3 — Box Score
With an RBI single from pinch hitter Jaime Del Valle the Gary SouthShore RailCats capped a wild ninth inning and walked off on the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 4-3.
The RailCats entered the bottom of the ninth trailing 3-1 but the first two batters each reached base. 2B Andy DeJesus, who was 2-for-4, doubled home both runners to tie the game and then he scored the game winning run when Del Valle singled. All three of the RedHawks’ runs came in the top of the sixth inning when DH Ryan Pineda singled 2B Brett Wiley and then CF Kes Carter singled home Pineda and 3B Josh Mazzola later in the frame.
For the game, Pineda was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
Cleburne 2, Salina 1 – Game 1/9 Innings — Box Score
The first game of the doubleheader was only scheduled for seven innings but the Cleburne Railroaders and Salina Stockade played nine anyway before a walk-off walk sealed a 2-1 win for Cleburne.
Starting pitcher Josh Hodges went the distance for the Railroaders, earning the win as he allowed just three hits and one unearned run while striking out four batters. Salina struck first in the top of the fourth inning when CF Eric Ferguson scored as 2B Jimmy Heck reached on an error. The Railroaders tied things up in the sixth as DH Axel Johnson scored on a pass ball. Both teams went down in order in the seventh to force extra innings.
In the ninth, Cleburne opened the bottom of the frame with back-to-back singles and after an intentional walk to load the bases, SS Alex Polston drew the game-winning walk.
Cleburne 1, Salina 0 – Game 2/7 Innings — Box Score
The second game in Tuesday’s doubleheader was a pitcher’s duel just like the first but in the night cap, the Cleburne Railroaders didn’t need extra innings to top the Salina Stockade 1-0.
The game’s lone run came in the bottom of the second inning when 3B Brandon Tierney hit a solo home run. The blast was Tierney’s second of the season. Both teams record just three hits in the game, each coming from a different batter. Starting pitcher Santos Arias picked up the win for working six innings and allowing three hits while striking out five batters. Reliever Winston Abreu earned the save for working a perfect seventh.
Salina starting pitcher Taylor Thurber pitched well in the loss, going the full six innings and allowing just one run on three hits while striking out two batters.
St. Paul 5, Texas 0 – Game 1/7 Innings — Box Score
The St. Paul Saints took the first game of their Tuesday twinbill with the Texas AirHogs 5-0 with the help of a complete-game, three-hit shutout from starting pitcher Ryan Zimmerman.
Zimmerman needed just 99 pitches to finish of the game and he issued three walks while striking out four batters on his way to his second win of the season. The Saints took the lead in the first inning when RF Danny Oh scored on a double steal. St. Paul added a run in the fourth as 2B Tony Thomas hit a solo home run and then in the fifth he added a three-RBI double to finish 2-for-4 with four RBI.
CF Breland Almadova and DH Anthony Gallas each added a pair of hits for the Saints. DH Alvaro Rondon had two of the AirHogs three hits.
St. Paul 4, Texas 0 – Game 2/7 Innings — Box Score
The St. Paul Saints swept their doubleheader with the Texas AirHogs with a pair of shutouts, capping the day with a 4-0 win.
St. Paul edged in front in the first inning when CF Breland Almadova, who went 2-for-4, tripled home RF Danny Oh and then scored on a fielder’s choice from 3B Nate Hanson. The Saints added two more runs in the sixth as DH Brady Buryznski drew a bases-loaded walk and SS Jon Kristoffersen added a sac fly to left field. The AirHogs had just two hits in the game, one each from DH Alvaro Rondon and CF Ryne Willard.
Starting pitcher Jason Creasy earned the win as he went six innings and allowed just two hits while striking out eight batters.
Sioux City 6, Winnipeg 3 — Box Score
The Sioux City Explorers erased a 3-0 deficit to claim a 6-3 win against the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
The Explorers scored their first runs in the bottom of the third as SS Nate Samson doubled home LF Jayce Ray and then scored when 1B John Nogowski singled in the next at-bat. In the fourth, Sioux City took the lead for good when RF Michael Lang tripled in a pair of runs and then scored when Ray lifted a sac fly to right field. Ray went 3-for-4 with two runs scored in the game and three other Explorers each added a pair of hits.
For the Goldeyes, SS Andrew Sohn led the team with three hits and CF Reggie Abercrombie had two RBI and a home run. Starting pitcher Cody Forsythe was tabbed as the winner for throwing 6.2 innings and allowing three runs on seven hits with six strikeouts. Reliever P.J. Francescon picked up the save.
