KAIN’S WALK-OFF SINGLE WINS IT FOR WICHITA

Wichita 2, Fargo-Moorhead 1 – Box

The Wingnuts walked-off in style on Sunday, scoring a RBI single in the bottom of the ninth off the bat of CF Harrison Kain to win their 19th game of the season. Kain, who finished the game 3-5, raised his average to .340 on the year. Neither team scored until the eighth inning, due to strong starting pitching as both starting pitchers lasted seven innings, combining for 11 strikeouts between the two. RHP Jordan Cooper did not earn a decision, but his seven scoreless innings kept the Wingnuts around long enough to win the game. RHP Seth Harvey picked up the win for the Wingnuts, pitching a scoreless ninth inning and striking out a batter in his first win of the season.

St Paul 7, Winnipeg 6 – Box

The Saints topped the Goldeyes on Sunday in the rubber match of their series, to pick up their 19th win of the season. Both teams had big first innings as the Saints scored three in the top of the inning after three straight batters had RBI hits. The big play of the inning was a RBI double from LF Anthony Gallas. The Goldeyes scored two in the first to make it a 3-2 game. Later in the game, the Saints were up 6-2 when the Goldeyes tied it with a big fifth inning that saw a couple of two-run doubles. In the sixth, 2B Tony Thomas hit a sacrifice fly to break up the tie game and give the Saints their eventual 7-6 win. C Maxx Garrett picked up two hits and drove in two runs in the victory. RHP Jason Creasy earned the win but was less than inspiring after surrendering six runs over five innings. RHP Seth Rosin earned his sixth save of the season in the win.

Kansas City 3, Salina 2 – Box

The T-Bones rode a three-run fourth inning to victory on Sunday, as they swept the three-game series against the Stockade and moved their winning streak to four games. The big play of the inning came off the bat of RF Chantz Mack. Mack hit a three-run blast, his third long ball of the year, to put the T-Bones up 3-1. The Stockade scored another run in the seventh inning, but the T-Bones held on for the narrow 3-2 win. RHP Luis Paula pitched two scoreless innings in relief to pick up his second win of the year, striking out three in the process. RHP Cody Winiarski completed the three-out save, his fourth save of the year.

Lincoln 11, Gary 6 – Box

The Saltdogs took the rubber match of their series with the Railcats on Sunday, winning their 19th game of the season and their eighth game in their last ten contests. The Saltdogs quickly took a 4-0 lead in the first inning and did not look back from there. The inning featured three home runs, including a two-run shot by DH Curt Smith. LF Brandon Jacobs and 3B Christian Ibarra also hit solo shots in the inning, as the Saltdogs went on to win easily. The Railcats hit three home runs in the loss, including a two-run shot from LF Anthony Cheky Jr. his first of the season. RHP Carlos Pimentel went seven innings to pick up his fourth win of the season. The right-hander allowed six runs on six hits and struck out eight in the win.

Sioux Falls 7, Cleburne 5 (11 innings) – Box

The Canaries picked up the series sweep on Sunday, beating the Railroaders 7-5 in 11 innings to win their eighth game in their last ten contests. The game was tied at 5-5 going into extras before a two-run eleventh inning gave the Canaries their 13th win of the year. The winning runs came off the bat of RF Jabari Henry who drove in two runs with a double to give his team the lead and the eventual win. Henry finished the game with five hits and four RBIs while raising his average to .349. LF Axel Johnson collected four hits in the loss and hit his first home run of the season. RHP Jose Ortega earned the win, his second of the year, and RHP Andrew Woeck pitched a scoreless eleventh to earn his first save.
