JAKE LABER HAS STRONG SHOWING ON LABOR DAY

Fargo-Moorhead 7, Sioux Falls 0Box Score

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks shutout the Sioux Falls Canaries 7-0 behind a strong showing from starting pitcher Jake Laber on Labor Day.

Laber went eight innings and allowed just four hits and issued a single walk in the game. Laber also struck out seven batters. Reliever Coty Woods came in to work the ninth and did not allow a baserunner. Offensively, the RedHawks took the lead in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back.

Four different RedHawks had two-hit games including 1B Michael Thompson and CF Nic Jackson – both of whom had two RBI.

 

Kansas City 12, St. Paul 10Box Score

After giving up five runs in the top of the first inning, the Kansas City T-Bones clawed their way back on top and eventually claimed a 12-10 win over the St. Paul Saints.

Eight of the nine batters in the Kansas City order had hits in the game and four of them had three-hit games. 2B Danny Richar posted a team-high three RBI and RF Ray Sadler and SS Victor Frias each added two more. 1B Nick Schwaner had three hits and scored twice to go along with his one RBI.

For the Saints, five batters had multi-hit games and both 2B Jake Taylor and DH Tyler Peterson went 3-for-5. Taylor had a game-high five RBI as he homered twice.

 

Sioux City 6, Lincoln 3 Game 1/7 InningsBox Score

The Sioux City Explorers pulled away with three runs in the last two innings to take the first game of a Labor Day doubleheader 6-3 with the Lincoln Saltdogs.

The game was tied at three going into the final two innings before RF Brock Kjeldgaard singled home 1B Rene Tosoni to take the lead. CF Tim Colwell doubled home two more runs in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach. Kjeldgaard and Colwell each had two hits and two RBI in the game for the Exploreres.

For the Saltdogs, LF Chad Mozingo and SS Mike Gilmartin had two hits and Mozingo had a team-high two RBI.

 

Lincoln 12, Sioux City 6 Game 2/7 InningsBox Score

The Lincoln Saltdogs bounced back in the second game of their doubleheader with the Sioux City Explorers and claimed a 12-6 win.

The Explorers scored first in the top of the second inning but the Saltdogs put up four runs in the bottom of the second and five more in the bottom of the third and three more in the fourth to put the game all but out of reach. The Explorers scored three in the fifth but only one more the rest of the way. Lincoln 1B Jeremy Hamilton led the way as he went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBI.

For the Explorers, three different batters had two hits but it was RF Peter Barrows, who had just one hit, that had a team-high three RBI.
