HERNANDEZ HOMERS TWICE, LEADS RAILROADERS TO VICTORY

Cleburne 5, Houston 3 – Box Score

With a two-run homer off the bat of SS Ramon Hernandez, the Cleburne Railroaders walked off on the Houston Apollos 5-3.

Both teams crossed the plate for the first time in the third inning as DH Ramon Villa had an RBI groundout for the Apollos and Hernandez singled home 2B Alay Lago. Hernandez struck again in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run home run that gave the Railroaders a 3-1 lead.

In the sixth, 1B Hudson Bilodeau (2-for-4) singled home CF Brian Dansereau and in the top of the ninth, Houston tied the score with an RBI single from 1B Mike Annone.

In the bottom of the ninth, CF Zach Nehrir drew a lead-off walk and then stole second before Hernandez (3-for-5) sent a 3-1 pitch over the fence to end the contest.

 

Lincoln 4, Kane County 3 (11 Innings) – Box Score

For the second night in a row, the Lincoln Saltdogs and Kane County Cougars needed extra innings to decide the winner but the Saltdogs came out on top on Wednesday 4-3 in 11.

The game was tied at 2-2 after nine innings and, in the top of the 11th, the Saltdogs loaded the bases and both Forrestt Allday and LF Justin Byrd drew walks to give Lincoln the 4-2 lead. In the bottom of the inning, CF Anfernee Seymour (3-for-5) singled home DH Kacey Clemens and moved to second when 2B Josh Allen was hit by a pitch in the next at-bat. But LF Mitch Reeves bounced into a fielder’s choice in the next at-bat to end the threat and the contest.

For the Saltdogs, both 2B Josh Altmann and 1B Zak Taylor each had a pair of hits in the game and Taylor added a solo shot in the top of the sixth.

 

Sioux City 4, Milwaukee 3 – Box Score

The Sioux City Explorers claimed their series with the Milwaukee Milkmen with a 4-3 win on Wednesday at Franklin Field.

The Explorers struck first as they took the lead in the top of the first inning when LF Joseph Monge (2-for-3) doubled to allow 1B Jared Walker to score. In the second, CF Chase Harris hit a two-run home run and, in the third, Walker singled to plate RF Lane Milligan.

Milwaukee found the scoreboard in the bottom of the third when SS Aaron Hill (2-for-3) hit a lead-off triple and scored when CF Brett Vertigan bounced out. LF Adam Brett Walker II hit a two-run shot in the sixth to draw the Milkmen within one run but that proved to be the final run of the game.

Starting pitcher Brett Adcock tossed 5.1 innings and earned the win as he allowed three runs, two earned on four hits while striking out four batters.

 

Kansas City 8, Sioux Falls 6 – Box Score

The Kansas City Monarchs (5-8) rode a strong performance from 2B Ryan Grotjohn to top the Sioux Falls Canaries 8-6.

The Canaries posted a pair of runs in the top of the first inning when CF Logan Landon (2-for-5) and DH Jabari Henry hit back-to-back home runs but the Monarchs responded with five runs in the home half. LF Colin Willis (2-for-4) hit a two-RBI single and Grotjohn hit a three-run home run in the next at-bat to give the Monarchs a 5-2 lead. Grotjohn hit another three-run shot in the third to put the Monarchs in front 8-2.

Sioux Falls battled back late with a pair of runs on wild pitches and a two-RBI single from 1B Trey Michalczewski (2-for-5) but couldn’t complete the comeback.

 

Gary SouthShore 8, Fargo-Moorhead 3 – Box Score

The Gary SouthShore RailCats rode a hot start to an 8-3 win against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks on Wednesday night.

The RailCats (7-8) plated three runs in the bottom of the opening frame as 3B Phil Caulfield (2-for-2) scored when LF Raymond Jones reached first on a fielder’s choice, RF Hayden Schilling had an RBI single and Jones scored when 2B Daniel Lingua singled in the next at-bat. Jones added a two-RBI double in the bottom of the second to push the lead to 5-0.

While the RedHawks plated a run in the fourth and two in the seventh, the RailCats put things away in the eighth when OF MJ Rookard (3-for-4) doubled home a pair of runs and scored when Schilling hit a sac fly to left field.

For the RedHawks, 1B Correlle Prime and 3B Leobaldo Pina went 2-for-4 and DH Jordan George went 1-for-4 with two RBI.

 

Chicago 8, Winnipeg 4 (Game 1/7 Innings) – Box Score

The Chicago Dogs took game one of their doubleheader with the Winnipeg Goldeyes 8-4 on Wednesday afternoon.

The Dogs moved in front in the bottom of the first inning as RF Danny Mars (2-for-4) singled home LF Brennan Metzger and 1B K.C. Hobson (3-for-4) doubled to score 2B Grant Kay (2-for-4) in the next at bat. Mars scored later in the inning when CF Anfernee Grier (1-for-1, 4 RBI) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The Goldeyes took the lead in the third when DH Darren Seferina (2-for-4) doubled and took third on an error that allowed SS Raul Navarro and 3B Milton Ramos to score. In the next at-bat, 1B Kyle Martin hit a two-run homer that plated Seferina.

Chicago moved back into the lead in the bottom of the inning as Grier doubled home Hobson and C Ryan Lidge. Grier drew a bases-loaded walk in the fifth and in the sixth, SS Harrison Smith hit a lead-off homer and Mars tripled to score Metzger to pad the lead.

 

Chicago 3, Winnipeg 1 (Game 2/7 Innings) – Box Score

The Chicago Dogs (10-5) swept their doubleheader with the Winnipeg Goldeyes by taking the nightcap 3-1.

The Dogs scored all three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and it was a double from C Ryan Haug that opened the scoring. 2B Grant Kay added a single that pushed 3B Cosimo Cannella across the plate and Haug scored when RF Danny Mars lifted a sac fly to right field, giving the Dogs the 3-1 lead.

The Goldeyes (5-9) scored their only run in the top of the fifth inning when 1B Kyle Martin drew a bases-loaded walk that scored 3B Milton Ramos.

Reliever Scott Firth earned the win after throwing 1.2 innings and allowing one hit.
